Epoxy

"Happy Easter" ----- Okay guys, I know we all talked about this before but my memory isn't so great.--- What are the good epoxies to use for cracked handles?-- Also, I have a small hairline surface crack in my old Mosin Nagant rifle that is not bad but need to know what would be good for it. ( I like pre-mo stuff if ya knows what I mean)

do'nt knock yourself. A repaired HI kuk and a 7.62x54? I would'nt mess with that!!!!!I should know. I've got them too! For epoxy I'd use Devcon 2ton(find it at Kmart or Wal Mart)if they're large cracks or superglue for small hairline cracks. The 5minute epoxy can build up heat as it cures and stress a crack futher. Also it's work time is rarly 5min. It usually starts to thicken imediately and wont flow into cracks. I hope this helps.

Thanks much Was4u ! I'll take a look and see if I can find it. On another note, do ya know where I can find the scope for the Moisin sniper ?

I don't like the 5 minute stuff either. It hardens too fast. You can work the epoxy into a crack with a needle. Also, the 1 hour stuff seems to be a lot stronger.

You might need stock pins in your Nagant if the crack is in a weak spot (such as the pistol grip).

Thanks for the warning about heat. I have noticed it with accuglas (which I don't use on khukuri's).

From reading the other thread, JB weld works well?? I have lots of experience working with that stuff and a 15" AK ready for a handle fix. Do you try to clamp the handle or just let it set up in the "relaxed" positon?

Uncle Bill clamps them, but I'm not sure if that's to minimize the crack cosmetically or if there's some practical reason. I'd think that just filling the crack would be less likely to stress other incipient cracks. Uncle Bill?

Hopefully, once Birgorkha starts using the cured horn Gelbu has bought, it'll be less likely to occur. It used to be that a good hoof treatment would prevent most of it happening.

In the meantime if you are like me, a little superglue ( regular liquid, not the gel ) for hairline cracks or long setting epoxy for larger ones is a small price for big buck discounts on the cracked blems. I couldn't have afforded the number I have were it not for the blems and the villagers.

Thanks very much guys for all the info. I've been so busy that I finally got to read the great replys. Now I have to go into the web sites. ---Meanwhile--- H.I. Khukuris and Gurkhas forever!!
