Hello!
My first post here on blade forum.
I was perusing reddit the other day abd cane across a gec 54 with brown micarta handle, i like how it look, but dont like how their priced.
Can anybody suggest comparable knives?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Look at Case, Bear & Son, Rough Rider, Taylor, Imperial...

I'm sure the guys with more knowledge, will chime in. Did you have a price point?

Tough pattern to find, as it was only made very early the late 19th, early 20th century or very recently, and mainly by higher end companies. The Queen City Cigar Trapper is the only close knife I can recall, you might find one cheaper on the collectors market than a GEC.

Yes, its kinda a uncommon pattern.
My dad does have a queen cigar trapper in his collection.
I dod find this guy, i like the micarta, gives it a different look from traditional wood or bone handeled, and with a modern tool steel. Though, im in canada so they wont ship :(

Do you have any vendors, that can order it for you?

Welcome.
GEC knives are best discussed in the Traditional Forum.
Moving there now.

Look up “my us address”

Never used them but my understanding is you order and have it ship to them and they ship to you in Canada or wherever.

you should check out the jack wolf equal end. its smaller than the 54, 3.73" closed length. the biggest store in canada had them. maybe you will be lucky and find one on CKG

You know I just got a GEC Yellow Rose 54, NIB and when I opened it, there were small liner scratches on the pen blade. Don't know if I caused it or it came like that, but the pull is like a 7 and thus you gotta put your nail really in there. It may not be worth the price. The blades are centered but the pen blade can still hit that liner. I wanted to see if it's just me or did other GEC 54 owners also notice this with the pen blade.

Can I see the other side?

Here's mine compared to a Case Mini Stockman with just a small liner line on the trapper. I've had the trapper now for a while and use it all the time.

See it happens on the opposite side where the nail nick is, where you put lateral pressure. I mean, I got this knife yesterday nib, which is a bummer.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm in love with this baby, the GEC Urban Jack. It's my favorite knife. The GEC Urban Jack in Elderberry. Worth every penny.

Now not to sway you but if price is an issue, Case Barlow's are a good bet. Whoever they have making their Barlow's needs a raise, as my Case Barlows are nearly always perfect. Also GEC makes knives for Remington and people who don't know this don't snatch them up as fast and thus there more readily available at the regular non marked up price. Here's a bit of my collection. Case Barlow at the top, Case mini trapper below that, GEC Urban Jack, the 54 not in micarta but you can see the size difference. Case full size Trapper and the Remington Silver Bullet with real sterling silver shield at the bottom made by GEC.
