I like those, including leukus and such, because with them you always know what you are about.

Never ever have I heard of a woodsman that accidentally threw the whole length of a knife from sheath and not know what for.

I cannot decide what are the unifying characteristics of eräpuukot. There are many traditional makers who have knives they call eräpuukko and they vary so much that I cannot pin them down. Can you speak to this? This goes for the knives and the sheaths.

Not easily, I must say. I'd put it down to the shape, and to some extent length, of the blade and how it fits in the sheath. I consider vuolupuukko a different thing. Wood and leather but there are some "tactical" looking options as well.

Keep it simple, ... most important wood working tools ... and a knife.
I picked something that I liked from another topic, and shortened to this context. Not for show, no fine tuning, and here not completely replacing an axe.

And you don't go about it willi nilly. It's when you need it. See above.
