Santa brought me an Extrema Ratio fulcrum II D (lockback folder)

Initially I was more than pleased with its build quality but after a couple of weeks of playing with it Ive noticed there is vertical blade play when its open. This is fairly significant probably in the region of 1/2mm in the vertical direction if you hold the spine and the handle and move them in opposite directions. Not something I had expected from such an expensive knife.

The only other lockback I own is a spyderco endura PE FRN, I have checked and there is no such play on this, not withstanding the fact it cost only about 1/4 as much as the fulcrum!!

I've taken the knife apart and checked, there is no obstruction in the lock mechanism and the silicone washers are both in place, it seems to be that the pivot doesnt perfectly fit the hole in the blade and the peg on the lockback mechanism doesnt perfectly fit the associated cutout in the blade. I checked the pivot tightness, its as tight as it will go without being so tight you cant open the knife! The knife hasnt been through any hard use at all since Ive had it.

Has anyone else experienced this problem with a quality lockback knife before? I dont know if I should return the knife or if its just how it is...

If you don't care to send it back, then thats what I would do. These people are very good about making things right. I sent one back one time for a minor tune up and they sent me one back that was perfect, in about 10 days. Pretty good considering I live in US. They are a top notch company, just box it well, insure and send it, you won't be dissatisfied when you get it back. These are some of the finest well made knives in the world IMO and they seem to really care about the finished product.

Im pleased to hear positive feedback on the company, I think I will send it back and see what happens.

Thanks

I have my Gerber 600 folder for some years, and now, the blade has a little play in vertical direction, I think that's the drawback of lockback! You see, Knives with linerlocks and axislocks have their own stop pegs, so the lock control only one turn, but a forder with lockback has no stop peg, two turning direction are controled by lock, so if the knife's manufacturing acc uracy's not higher, the blade will be play to one direction.
I would say, turn it back as soon as you can!

I hear what youre saying but the thing cost 200 GBP (thats nearly $400 at the moment) so it should be manufactured to a highly accurate standard!
