Eraserhead - explain this movie from the 70's?

To anyone remembering seeing Eraserhead, or saw it recently, what was this movie about?

Beats me. I remember trying to watch it a long time ago. I think I watched for about 15 minutes.

I've never seen it, but I remember alot of my friends went to midnight showings back in the late 70's & early 80's. ("Eraserhead," "Pink Flamingos," and "The Rock Horror Picture Show." were the usual choices)

RottenTomatoes.com has a goood synposis of the movie. Basically, it's the closest thing to an actual nightmare as you'll find.
 
I'm not sure if it was meant to be understood or if it was a Dadaist fantasy, but one thing's for sure - there are some unsettling scenes in it. It's been a long time since I've seen it but I don't really have any desire to watch it again.
 
I saw this movie about fifteen years ago on VHS. It was certainly the most bizarre and disturbing movie I've ever seen. I watched it all to see if there was a point to it, any kind of point, but found none at all. If I ever walk into a room and it's playing on a TV or whatever, I will leave immediately. I have no desire to see it again. It was worse than 'Blue Velvet.'
 
I remember Eraserhead as being theeee most disturbing movie I have ever seen. I haven't seen it in many years, but the lasting impression it left is that it is as close to watching a "fever dream" somehow recorded on film as you'll ever get.
 
Rofl, marathon Eraserhead, Naked Lunch and Freaks! You'll be totally numb after that! :eek:

Yep. That it does. I've never been able to sit through the whole thing. Seen it all in snips & chunks, but never start to finish. Even when I was 'chemically adjusted' (this was 20 yrs ago) I never was able to.
 
How about "300 Motels" by Frank Zappa. I think Dali also made a whacked movie also.

Of course I must Caption:

Marge had just begun to doubt the $2.99 an eye Lasick surgery was the same as the $3000 an eye LASIK surgery....

You'll either be totally numb or need Lexapro for life. Although Naked Lunch might provide a bit of insulation between Eraserhead and Freaks.

Oh yeah...throw Requiem for a Dream and/or Pi in that mix.
