Recently helped a friend skin and process a moose. These knives with the replaceable blades are: lightweight, machine washable, always sharp.

But if you are going to be working with a knife for hours: the handle is harder to index than it needs to be, and much to thin for a comfortable grip.

If I try to make something that addresses the handle issues, can anybody suggest where I can get this lightweight “plastic” handle material?

I believe those are injection molded plastic. I have never used it, but take a look at ULTEM. It should fit the bill with regards to weight...and it is semi-transparent, so kinda cool.

from the interwebs: ULTEM® (polyetherimide) is a semi-transparent high strength plastic material that can operate in high service temperature environments. Ultem® is resistant to hot water and steam and can withstand repeated cycles in a steam autoclave.

Maker Material Supply has it in knife scale size.
