My Dad was posted to the Sewart Air Force Base in 1958/59 when he was a pilot for the Australian Air Force. He bought a knife at the BX store there, and I'm trying to find out a little bit about it.

It's about a 5" fixed blade with a whole heap of gadgets in the handle; eg corkscrew, saw, file, can/bottle opener, and a strip to light matches on. The blade itself has a short section with serrations on it.

The only markings on the blade are the words 'ERN SOLINGEN GERMANY' on one side, and 'stainless' on the other side.

Its been in his cupboard for 45 years, and just pulledi it out the other day. He says the blade is still really shiny and very sharp.

Can anyone help me with identifying this knife, and tell me a bit about it?

All I can tell you about the knife is that it is made by Fridrich Ern and that the company started making knives in 1873. Not sure if you care, but Ern knives for the most part do not have very high collectors value. Not sure about this one though.

I see that you have posted your question on the Bernard Levine forum. Hopefully that will get you more information than I am able to supply.
