One of my favorite movies, and one of my favorite scenes. Borgnine was Dutch, from the Wild Bunch.

Pike Bishop: You boys want to move on or stay here and give him a... decent burial?
Tector Gorch: He was a good man, and I think we oughta bury him.
Pike Bishop: He's DEAD! And he's got a lot of good men back there to keep him company!
Lyle Gorch: Too damn many!
Dutch Engstrom: [removes his hat] I think the boys are right. I'd like to say a few words for the dear, dead departed. And maybe a few hymns'd be in order. Followed by a church supper. With a choir!
Lyle Gorch: You crazy bastards! Both of ya!

He'll always be Dutch to me! Have a good trip west.

Rest In Peace, Lieutenant Commander Quinton McHale.

..and who can forget Borgnine as the vicious Fatso Judson, who beat Frank Sinatra to death in From Here to Eternity.

Aw man, too damm many fine performances to count!

The small town tough in "Bad Day At Black Rock."

The shy butcher in "Marty."

The sadistic train conductor in Lee Marvin's "Emperor Of The North"

As said, Fatso in "From Here To eternity."

Dominic Santini in the TV show "Airwolf".

The jelous rancher in Glen Ford's "Jubal."

So many great roles to count. Day-em, he'll be missed. Not too often does that much acting talent come down the pike in one package.

Carl.

Hey! 95 ain't too shabby.

He almost ran me over with his Mercedes. I was headed to the H. Salt on Vineland in North Hollywood (1970 something) and he almost bumped me as he was trying to park.
I noticed his license plate, BORG 9. No bid deal. He missed.:D I was standing in line and he came in and stood behind me. He never said anything, but gave me a sheepish smile.

R.I.P. Mr. Borgnine.

Borgnine joined the United States Navy in 1935, after graduation from James Hillhouse High School[5] in New Haven, Connecticut. He was discharged in 1941, re-enlisted after Pearl Harbor, and served until 1945 (a total of ten years), reaching the rank of gunner's mate 1st class. He served aboard the destroyer USS Lamberton. His military decorations include the Navy Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal with Fleet Clasp, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

In 1956, Borgnine said of his Navy service "I wouldn't trade it for anything. The Navy molded me into a man, and I made a lot of friends too."

Borgnine received the honorary rating of chief petty officer in October 2004 from Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Terry D. Scott for Borgnine's support of the Navy and naval families worldwide.

After the war was over, he returned to his parents' home with no job and no direction. In a British Film Institute interview about his life and career, Borgnine said:

After World War II we wanted no more part in war. I didn't even want to be a boy-scout. I went home and said that I was through with the Navy and so now, what do we do? So I went home to mother, and after a few weeks of patting on the back and, 'You did good,' and everything else, one day she said, 'Well?' like mothers do. Which meant, 'Alright, you gonna get a job or what?'[8]
Since he was not willing to settle for a dead-end factory job, his mother encouraged him to pursue a more glamorous profession and suggested that his personality would be well suited for the stage. He surprised his mother by taking the suggestion to heart, although his father was far from enthusiastic. In 2011, Borgnine remembered,

She said, `You always like getting in front of people and making a fool of yourself, why don't you give it a try?' I was sitting at the kitchen table and I saw this light. No kidding. It sounds crazy. And 10 years later, I had Grace Kelly handing me an Academy Award.

Also the voice of Mermaid Man in the Spongebob cartoons. Pretty cool guy all around.

One of my very favourite actors. RIP.

Among my favourite movies is one named "Jubal" starring him and Glenn Ford. Anyone else remember that movie?

I also liked him as the crazy cabbie in Escape from New York.

And for a stubby ugly little guy, he certainly was married to some beautiful women!
