As I was shopping (read drooling) at the Blade Show today, I stopped to talk to Mr. Emerson. After a wonderful conversation, I asked him if he wouldn't mind me taking a picture of him with one of his knives.
I was astounded when he asked me to come behind the counter and take the picture with him! Not only did he have one of his friends take the picture, but he gave me a knife to hold (unfortunately I gave it back

) for the picture, so I bought one!
He also got my two partners back there for a group picture! I'll post one soon, but now I'm going back to the show.

I completely agree. I posted a similar subject in the Emerson Knives forum.

Please get up off your knees.

He's not the pope, he just makes knives.

Yeah I'm crazy, but what do you want me to do about it

I'm not idolizing Mr. Emerson, however so many of the custom knife makers today have such incredible attitudes, are so full of themselves, that when I met Ernest Emerson, I was really surprised that he acted like one of the guys. He has absolutely no pertentions, and he knows that he only makes knives.

Perhaps there are some makers wih attitudes.

But, most of the ones I've met are friendly and down to earth. Basically good guy's.

Joe, I am jealous that you got to make the trip down. Did you meet anyone else of interest? Just trying to live vicariously through your exploits, not trying to get you to drop names like The Pontiff or anything, knife makers and forum members would be fine.

Thanks

Well, I'll admit that I am idolizing Ernie! His mannerisms are amazing. I wish I could behave more like him. He is a true inspiration.

He did weather the shi_storm of wailing and gnashing of teeth over the delays in his custom knives while he started up Emerson Knives Inc. with a great deal of poise. Maybe people still aren't getting their custom knives delivered, but Mr. Emerson certainly is nice about it. Sounds like he is not too shabby a salesman either.

James-

I also had the privelage of meeting Alan Elischewitz, James Mattis, Most of the guys that work in Emmerson's production shop, Mrs. Emmerson, and many others (to be honest I need to get the pictures developed to remember EVERYONE

).

On another rant, why is it that when Ernie has problems producing custom knives, everyone throws a fit- but it can take upwards of seven years to get a Scott Slobodian sword, and no one says anything about it?
