well i thought my last knife for the years was a benchmade 42 i received two weeks ago. however last night i picked up a esee 5 sere on the for sale section. i plan to really cut back in 2012. paying for my mba is a huge expense (three more classes left then i get to pick my graduation present). i had planned to cut back on guns in 2011 which i did. i only bought one but i did wrap up a deal on a s&w 41 on the 31st. however i spent more then i plan in sharp objects lol.

currently i use a delica 3. i bought a starbenza which is an amazing knife however i would hate to lose a knife i spent around 370 on. i also picked up a sage 2 but it is noticeable larger compared to the crk. so i am very intrigued by the eros with the 3 inch blade. i saw a lot of reviews here with a ton of great pics and specs. however there are still two things i am curious about. first is the thinness of the blade. a few months ago i was considering the benchamde 530 but after hearing about a very thin blade i decided to pass. does anyone how the blade on the eros compares to that on the 530? next is the thinness off scales especially on the handle with the lock. from the pictures the handle seems a lot thinner when compared to the sage 2 and the sebenza. i was wondering if this should be a concern in regards to the strenght and durability of the lock.

thanks,

liquid

I EDC'd an Eros for a few months before I went to the UK, and I still use it as a work EDC (active duty military). The key strengths of the Eros as and EDC, is its extreme light weight, quality construction, nice looking design, IKBS speed and ease of opening, having a four finger handle on a 3" blade (something the small Sebenza did not have for me), and having a thin, razor sharp cutting edge. It is an incredible slicer.

It is definately and EDC blade, not a heavy duty knife though. Both the handles and blade are very thin, and while they feel strong and solid to me, the blade geometry would not allow for any prying IMO. It is a very "pointy" knife, which means most prying would be at the very tip, where the blade is thin in all directions.

Compared to the 530, I think it feels stronger (I have owned a 530 before), because it is titanium, and it is actually half an ounce lighter as well. This blade is about style, comfort, and slicing, not heavy duty. For what I consider to be EDC tasks, it is the best knife I have owned. For heavier duty tasks, I take my Izula or my ZT 551.

I'd consider the Eros more a "Gentleman's Folder". Could be a satisfactory EDC, but most folks seem to prefer something more "heavy duty".

It's definitely very nice. Well made. Good f&f. Incredibly smooth.

One of the better folders CRKT makes, and priced accordingly.
