In the newest issue of Blade Magazine, they have the second part of a series of articles about offshore knives, and on the first page of the article, they have a nearly fullsize color photo of a Buck/Strider SBT Advocate with the caption that it is one of the knives Buck is having made in China.

I do not think that's accurate is it?

I would say error...go to page 47 of the 2006 Buck catalog, 8 models of Striders listed...all have an origin of USA

I don't think that is accurate either, but I am unfamiliar with that model name? Can you post a pic of the article with the knife and the caption?
All of my Buck striders are USA made though...

It wouldn't be the first time a part of our media was wrong or misleading :D

Yep, that's the article!

Here's a good picture of the knife.

I wonder if they would print a retraction next month?

All,
They know of the mistake and will issue a correction in an upcoming issue.
Steve Shackleford, the editor, told me he had received numerous inquiries about this mistake. By the way, if you make it to the Blade Show, have someone introduce you to Steve and Mary Lutz. You could not hope to meet two nicer people. If you attend the BCCI annual meeting, you will also see them because every year, the club presents each of them with a "thank you" knife for all they do on our behalf at the Blade Show.

Not checking the origin is a blunder, but what I find more shocking is that people who write knife articles for a living would not already be familiar with that Buck/Strider series. The Police Advocate isn't even a new model to cause confusion. And did the $104 MSRP for a supposedly Chinese knife not make them think a little as they typed that caption?

I did get a reply e-mail from the Editor Steve Shackleford, they will have a correction in the May issue.

Kinda cool that he took the time to reply. KUDOS to Blade!

Larry could not be more right on about Steve and Mary and I would encourage anyone attending the show to meet them if you get the chance.
Personally, I NEVER make mistakes.... :foot: ;)

we are preparing ourselves to answer questions from consumers and dealers...here is an internal memo from our VP Marketing Dave Visnack...

Duane Dwyer of Strider and I had a good phone call chuckle over this one. Sometimes laughter is your only legal option...and I know Blade will make this as right as they can.

Recently, Buck Knives received coverage in the press that I would like to address. In the current edition of the Blade Magazine, a Buck Knife, the SBT Police Advocate, is featured prominently on the first page of an article entitled ”Beast of the Far East”. This article explores the topic of knife manufacturing in the Pacific Rim and features several brands and models of knives produced overseas. In addition, the caption next to the photo of our knife reads, “An example of a Buck Knife made in China is the SBT Police Advocate…”

As many of you are aware, the SBT Police Advocate is not made overseas, rather it is a model produced right here in our Idaho facility. Both Buck Knives and Strider Knives, collaborators on this particular knife model, are disappointed, to say the least, with this misrepresentation of our product. Both the author of the article, Dexter Ewing, and the editor of Blade Magazine, Steve Shackleford, have apologized profusely and will print a retraction in the next issue. Additionally, Buck will do everything in its power to remedy the situation.
