Anyone know if there is a way to extend the handle of the esee 3 using the stock scales? Like a piece that bolts into the lanyard hole? I am aware of the tkc scales, not wanting to fork out $56 for extended scales(i am sure they are worth the price). Not when there might be a way to fabricate a small bolt in extension.
Thanks in advance.

That would be relatively easy to do when making new handles, but I doubt an extension on its own would hold up very with so little tang to work with. Maybe if it was molded directly on for a tight fit, but that would take so much work it would be better to just make complete handles.

I would think you would have to make new complete scales to achieve a reliable result. Honestly though, I would get the TKC's. I know they are expensive but, they are very high quality and are well worth the money imo. Its hard to stomach the price initially but, once you have them you have them for life and now have a knife that fits you better and is more comfortable to use. The other option is to sell your Esee and get something more suited to your hand size.

Always check lengths and dimensions of knives you are looking to buy and make sure they suit you before buying. Especially if you dont want to modify. I learned this lesson the hard way too.

Probably not exactly what you're looking for but, just an idea/option; would a thick lanyard work? Not exactly an extension of the handle but, certainly offers something a bit more in terms of grip. Gives you a bit more purchase in the palm. Pretty simple. I dunno, just a thought.

remove the original handles, use them as a pattern to trace new ones over a piece of micarta or G10 (either bought or home made), add as much extension on the back as you want, cut, drill and sand to shape. The gap between the extension of the scales (not supported by the tang) could be filled with an additional piece of micarta (cut, shaped and ground to appropiate thickness and glued to one of the two scales. You can use the original hardware plus another chicago screw on the far back to attach a lanyard.

I replaced the original scales of my RAT7 with home made micarta scales (blue jeans). And at the time I didn't have power tools.

I encorage you to try!
