Didn’t find any threads on this subject, so:
In the 2020 Esee line-up they have the Esee 3 and the new Xancudo fixed blade, both in 3 mm/0.125 inches thick s35vn, hardened to 59-60 hrc. The 3 and Xancudo will both come with the new, 3d-machined scales, similar to the TKC-scales. The scales is also an option on new 4’s, 5’s and 6’s.
I like the scale-upgrade. Except for thr 6, I have upgraded the scales on all my Esee’s. The only reason I haven’t done it on my 6 is because the shipping and taxes doubles the price for me. Same with building my own knife from them. The opportunity to get 3D-scales with the knife from a local shop is a big plus for me!
The steel choice I’m not sure about. The 3 is a relatively thin knife, and a relatively good slicer. For everyday, urban needs the increased wear resistance s35vn has vs 1095 in such a knife can be a plus, but for harder use I don’t know how well it will stand up to lower edge angles, chipping etc. I keep my 1095 3 at 12 deg pr side, and a few swipes at 15 deg setting on the sharpmaker. I have had some rolling, but no chips.
All innall, I’m a bit exited, and I think it will be a purchase this year!
Anyone has any thoughts?
