After recently ordering an Izula II from TKC (Dale indeed seems like a great person to do business with), I now have my sights set on an ESEE 4 (not sure on which handle type). However, after looking over TKC all the 4s listed show as Rat Cutlery, does anyone know if that's simply old photos/catalog numbers, or are they actually the Ontario-made RC knives? Or should I just email Dale.

Thanks.

As an aside, any handle material recommendations?

As for the handles, I like the black linen micarta but there will be gaggles of folks that disagree with me and prefer the canvas. I have not handled both but from those that have it sounds like the canvas micarta offers a better grip.

All ESEE and RC branded knives are Rowen made. I ordered a 4, about 6 months back, and i received a RC-4. Still rowen made.
AFAIK Ontario knives are named RAT-4, RAT-1 etc.

I do not carry Ontario Knives, all of mine are from ESEE Knives. I just haven't had time to get the pictures updated yet (You guys are keeping me hopping!:D). I only have a few left with the RAT logo & most of those are in the 3 series.

If you're planning on getting a 4 I would highly recommend the g10 handles. They are unbelivably fantastic and completely transform the knife.

Thank you all for the great input. The orange G10 with black blade looks nice too in my opinion.

Now just for the money part...

if you get the bare blade and scales, you'll still need a sheath system.
If you buy a standard ESEE4 and the custom handles, you can sell/trade your original scales on the exchange to get a little of the difference back.

Dave, still have ESEE 5 plain edge black blades left. About to order one of those in the next week
