Remember the tread where I showed the modified ESEE(RC) 4?

The knife finally looked like this:

Though your comments where positive, I thought it looked to fanciful.
So I removed the patina with sanding paper and gun-blued the blade.
That's more my style now.:D

ml100, that knife turned out good... How well do you think the bluing will hold up? You might be right, this might be the flagship ESEE-4 of the bluing world. . :)
Nice touch with the orange handles/grips as well.
Be safe.

Ml100, that's a damn sexy knife. though i loved the patina, it did make it look like safe queen material. :D

Thanks,
well, we'll see how well it holds up. I will give it a tough workout the next days. I will post the result. However, gun-blueing isn't a big deal, so if it wears of too much I can repeat it.

Looks real good. Hadn't thought of that before. I will bet we will see more knives blued in the neer future.

Looks nice! It'd be cool if ESEE made some uncoated versions available. I'm getting close to stripping my Izula after about a year, the coating is beat.

The blueing will wear as will any finish you may use. The acid blue process is more durable and of course parkerizing(which is a phosphatizing process) is also a tough finish , the military uses it. The most important step is metal prep as every mark shows in the final finish.

Update. Just used my lunch break to go out do some batoning with the knife.
The gun-blued surface holds up pretty well. The surface now looks matt, but still black (or bluish-black). No scratches.

Did you use cold blue in a bottle?

Several people have done cold bluing in the past, especially on logos and such.

The Cold Blueing holds up pretty good and it easy to repair if need be .... I did a ESEE 3 year or so ago ,finally wearing thin , need to redo it but I like the faded wore look it has now...
Older pic but it is the faded 3MIL PE

ml100,

Your piece looks great, again. I really must say the bluing with the orange G10 is pretty sweet. Keep up the good work and enjoy the blade.

God bless,
Adam
