Hello all, I had a question about my new ESEE-4. I have a small gap on both slabs at the hilt area on the knife, I can see light all the way to the spine side of the handle. Is this normal?

hi, no its not normal to have visible gaps. did you check to see if the screws holding the slabs to the knife are tight? other than that a pic would be helpful.

That's really weird. It could be that the handles or loose or it could be a mis-hap. I'd contact ESEE if you can't fix it by adjusting the handles.

a pic would be nearly impossible because its so hard to see. The gap is very small but its there. More pronounced near the edge of the handle material.

Its a user so I'm not too worried about it, maybe it could rust if it got something nasty under it though.

Take cricketdave's advice and check the screws . All should be snug ( not over tight) Get two allen keys the same size ( not sure what that is right now) , hold the right one firm and tighten the left one snug. That may be your problem or perhaps warped micarta.

as for rusting under the scales, it wont the coating protects it there and its a very unlikely place to have wear. so thats not something i would worry about, but i would check to see everything is tight. other than that if your not happy with it, send it back and exchange it.

i've got many esee's and i havnt ever gotten one with a gap.

Set your camera to Digital Macro and take the pic really close to the handle. It will show everything in great detail.

With a coated blade, I doubt I'd worry about it. I had one Busse that came from the Shop with the slightest of gaps like you're talking about. It was very minimal, but I did take some epoxy and filled the gap. Now, you can't even tell it.

If you want to send it back to us we will fix it. It shouldn't be this way. Out of the thousands of knives we have sold this is the first time we have every heard of this. You can email me if you want to send it back jeff@eseeknives.com

Thanks for the offer but like the guys said I dont think it will rust under the scales so I'm going to just use the hell out of it for now. If it gets worse somehow I will send her in.

And why is good customer service such a bad thing?

Its just so rare that it was a shock to my system!

Don't take that first post the wrong way, The service is the best out of any company I have ever purchased anything from and I have never had to return or warranty anything form you guys. Its one of the main reasons I buy your knives. It could be tampons for all I care. Its the principal behind the way you guys operate. An Im sure I speak for most of us when I say THANKS
