This is a first time ESEE owner review of the ESEE 4. I had wanted a ESEE for a long time and now own one. I did a lot of reading before selecting the ESEE 4 so I though I would help any one who is considering buying one.

Appearance:
I got the one with the black blade and greenish micarta. The black coating has a great textured look (and seems to be very durable). The micarta handles look mostly green and gray. The lime green handle spacers look great. Over all the this knife looks awesome (very rugged look and looks even cooler after some use).

Price:
At less than $100 bucks shipped with a killer warranty this is the best deal out there. No regrets there.

Sheath System:
At first I didn't care for the sheath (no reason, I just didn't like it). But after carrying it and using it for a couple days I really like it. It fits any belt size and carry's close to the body. It holds the knife tightly and hardly noticeable when wearing it.

Handle:
I had read a lot of complainants about the handle being too thin. The handle is a little thin but I like it and wouldn't have it any thicker. It fits the knife and fits the hand really well. It remains comfortable in extended use. I really like the micarta texture. The length of the handle is good and and fills my hand. Very comfortable when used with the finger choil.

Blade:
The shape is perfect. 1095 is a great steel and ideal for this knife application. The jimping and the finger choil give a very positive grip for detailed work. The thickness is great and makes for a very strong knife, but not too thick.

Over all:
Great knife, no regrets. I will be ordering another.

The 4 really is a great knife. Best bushcraft size imo.
Congrats and your doomed now!
Btw;The Izula(II) is a great companion knife :)

good review! couldn't agree more. i like my black esee-4 so much i just ordered another one last night, this time in od green with the orange g10 handle.

Tell you what, it’s been a little over a year since I got my first one and it was a 4. If I had to sell all of my knives but 1, I’d keep my 4. It is a truly universal blade that can do everything from cleaning squirrels to batoning wood and everything in between.

Been considering picking up another 4 some time. Probably get the desert tan with canvas micarta, then when the coating wears, strip and patina it or duracoat it black. Have the black blade with canvas micarta scales that I lust so much for. :D

Nice job on the review - I have an RC-4 and it comes along with me wherever I go.

Hi man, nice review and congrats on the 4!

I'm also new hear and I've the same story to tell. My first ESEE knife is also a 4 in black with linen micarta scales, which I got 2 weeks ago.;)

Hey adaman, I asked you for some pics of your used 4: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=787782

I think the 4 is probably the best all around size we make for a general camp knife. I usually have either a 3 or 4 when I go into the bush. Nice review. Mike

Glad you like it! I love my 4 OD with Orange... I baby it a little too much I think... :) I'm thinking I need to get a 3 OD...
