Esee 4??

Great knife. One of my top choices whether it be folder or fixed blade.

3/16 in my opinion is no where near a thin blade... especially for a knife of the ESEE 4's size. Plenty thick enough.

Mine.

If you plan on using it as a knife, 3/16" is more than thick enough for hard use. If you need a pry bar, you can get one of them for about 1/10th the price of the ESEE 4. :D:thumbup:

I personally have absolutely no use for a blade that's more than 1/4" thick. I've only got one knife that thick. My most used small blades are all 1/8" or less.

I guess you're right. My similarly sized, but still larger Becker BK2, has a 1/4" blade, I suppose I'm just used to that.

i'd say its just about perfect. Thick enough to take a beating, and thin enough to actualy cut stuff. i wouldn't use it as a pry bar though. I wouldn't do that with a knife if its 5/16

ESEE-4 is a great knife and 3/16th is perfect for a all round blade.

I have fixed blades of 1/8th and they perform very well thank you very much.

With it's size I wouldn't want it any thicker, and I'm a guy who likes 1/4' knives. I feel the 4 is the best knife in the lineup. Buy, use it, you wont be let down.

3/16" is a good thickness. not too heavy a knife. Thinner cuts better, 3/16" is a good compromise between strength and cut. All the ESEE's I have are great deals & good quality. That said, I find the handle on the 4 a little short (and I don't have a big hand). I also find the finger choils too small a radius. Also, could use a flat spot in front of choil before the sharp blade starts. Still, easy mods to make if so inclined. Get a 4, they rock.

Remember back in the day when men counted on their knife to keep them alive(Mountain men) most were only about a 1/8". I think we know a bit more about making a good steel and heat treating now as well. 3/16 is about as thick as I want a knife.

Yeah the BK2 will skew your perception! I have both , and I think the 4 is a great/useful size. Any thicker and a lot of that usefulness would disappear.

ESEE 4 is a great knife. Wasent to sure about the handle at frist but when you use it its a very nice knife

The reason 3/16 is thin to you is because you have been using a sharpened pry bar for a knife (bk2). Look around, most bushcraft and camping knives are around 1/8, and some 3/16.
