Esee 5 and Bark river STS 5 question?

I have an esee 5 and am looking to get a BRKT STS 5. I was just wondering about the specs on the knife. The esee 5 is 16 ounces and the bark river which is basically the same size and has an even thicker blade is only 11.25 ounces. How is this possible? The only thing I could think of was the different steel types, the esee being 1095 high carbon steel and the BRKT 154cm. But i can't imagine that the weight differences being only due to the steel types. Are these two steel types really that different in weight?
Thanks for any replies

Isn't it more likely that the Bark River is ground thinner and the blade isn't as wide?

It looks to me like the Bark River has a higher grind and a swedge. Both features will reduce weight. Perhaps there are differences in the tangs also. The handle on the ESEE is massive and that glass breaker is good for half an ounce probably.

There are several oval cut-outs in the handle of the Bark River that gives the knife a more weight forward balance.

These are the main reason for the weight difference, not the steel type.

Most steels weigh about the same.
