ESEE-5 Clip Plate Modification

There seems to be a surge of ESEE-5 purchases lately and to be honest it has me playing with the 5 more than my beloved 4.

One thing that I've always liked about ESEE knives is the genius paracord belt loop system. While I had the 5 during the pass around, I used both the paracord belt loops and the new clip plate. I liked the clip plate and the way it dropped the knife a little lower on the belt, but to be honest the clip wasn't my favorite.

So since the snow is falling and I've confined myself to The Man Cave, I decided to combine the paracord belt loop system and the drop plate by modifying the stock clip plate a bit.

All I did was remove the clip plate and put it away for later in case I want to use it again, drilled 2 small holes at the top of the plate threaded the paracord through the existing clip hole and the 2 new ones, put on the cord lock and voila. I left the little ears at the top where the clip rides so I can return it to the stock configuration if I choose.

The paracord holds the knife nice and securely on the belt but has a little more give to it when crouching if the bottom of the sheath contacts something. Someone had commented once about hitting the bottom of their sheath and the whole assembly popping off their belt.

Nice job.
I like the paracord as it is SECURE on your belt.
With that system you won't lose it.
...and if you like you could move the cord lock to the front as an added security for the handle.

Don't have a 5, don't want a 5, and you shame the 4. But your treacherous tom-foolery aside, that's a nice mod you've worked up. Good thinking, good engineering. Thanks for sharing bro!

God bless,
Adam

That's what I said until I pulled the 5 out of the box and went "Oooooooooooooh......" :D

The 4 is still king of the ESEE line.

The 4 and the 5 are damned close to a tie for second best seller after the Izula. You freaks and your thick knives. :D

Nice mod Adam, that's a good idea.

You're kidding? I figured the 3 for sure, but the 4 is popular I suppose. The 5 surprises me.

Thanks Mike, hope you're enjoying Vegas.

I'd think the 3 would be up there too, but when people buy $100+ knives they tend to want HUGE ones so it makes sense. I think there is such a thing as TOO BIG for daily use.

I think the 3 is great-sized and the 4 is good for a bigger knife to attach to a backpack/bag. Those two I think would cover most of your situations in an urban or outdoors situation. The 5 is the 'tank' knife and the 6 good outdoors knife for more hardcore use.

Yes, I do EDC an RC6 on occasion :D and I have gotten the shakedown from the police for it :o (no charges yet though, I keep a copy of the knife rights bill in my pocket at all times now for that exact reason) and I do a great job of scaring the local hippie hikers and soccer moms when they see it
YMMV

Adam.... you know paracord is only rated to 550#..... I'd double that up. :)

Nice idea.
