The ESEE-5 is designed for stabbing one's way out of a downed aircraft. Clip points are designed for stabbing. So, why not an ESEE-5 Clip Point?

The 5 is pretty thick for a clip point. Especially with its grind. I don't think it would work particularly well. and a clip point/sharpened spine is much weaker than a normal drop point.

Aren't you sacrificing overall blade strength with a clip point?

I think the 5 should be coated like a Teflon pan...I mean - bullets sprayed with Teflon
go right through vests, a flimsy hull should be no issue. And fried eggs won't stick to it. :p

The Teflon on armor piercing ammo such as the old KTW rounds was designed to preserve the barrel and they were developed way before the widespread use of concealable body armor by law enforcement officers.

The SERE guys didn't design it that way.

Aircraft aluminum skin is suprisingly very thin. Airplanes need to be light. As my mechanic says, "mostly an airplane is just air". You don't need a clipoint to punch or cut through the aluminum skin. Plexi is a bit harder as that is typically 1/4 inch, but still easily doable, especially with the RC-5.

if they CP the 5 , the tip would be the weakest spot on the blade.... ESEE5 was design to be thick and solid ,which does not include being clip pointed :)
