Guys,
Quick question. Just got my Father's day present a little early! A new ESEE 5 that the wife bought from ********. Thus far I love the knife although I've only used it to run around inside the house trying to find things to cut up. But I did notice 1 thing, the ESEE logo that is laser etched on the micarta slabs, it seems lower than every other 5 I have seen a picture of. The top portion of the logo is even with the grip screws putting the logo in the lower portion of the grip. Every photo I've seen has the logo more or less centered top to bottom. I know it's not a big deal and the slabs are eventually going to get dirty but my question is: Could this be normal from the factory and perhaps my particular knife was just centered wrong when they laser etched it? Or would this be some kind of screw up or second? Like I said, it's really not a big deal and absolutely nothing functional but when you pay good money for a knife, you expect it out of the box....well you know, perfect. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Bladeforums.
Pictures help, however a laser etch that might be misplaced is hardly grounds for claiming defect. Production knives are not perfect.! Sometimes anomolies can and do squeak through. One thing, edit out the name of the store before you get hit with deal spotting. They are not a paid vendor here.

Happy Father's Day!

It's hard to say without a picture but its probably not worth worrying about. Use it and enjoy it!

Thanks for the advice, vendor was edited out. Here's an image, like I said - It's not a big deal but I wanted other opinions on it to rule out the "WTF is that catastrophe!" possibilty.

ESEE is the best company in the world to deal with on any issue you have so if it bothers you I'd just let them know. For the record they don't have seconds.... they won't re-furbish or release any kind of seconds... they get scrapped.

Don't have my five in front of me so I pulled up a picture for reference.... your's is a little lower than mine.....

They sand each scale individually so they aren't as interchangeable as most "production" knives are... bottom line is if it bothers you just let them know and ESEE will take care of you and not hesitate while doing so.

Well...I took Godspeed's advice and called ESEE. I didn't expect much given it was such minor issue and honestly, all I really was hoping for was a "Yes Sir, sometimes there are minor variations in the location of the etching from the factory - it's perfectly normal". That would have set me at ease and been fine. I even told ESEE that it wasn't a big deal, it just "kinda irk's me". Well that wasn't good enough for ESEE! The next thing I know - new slabs will be sent out ASAP! Free of charge!! You can't beat that with a stick, they'll have more business from me in the future and word of mouth reviews will be glowing. Thanks, Jon, Jeff and everyone else at ESEE!

That is how ESSE rolls. Best customer service in the biz!!!

BTW, your logo was too low. I checked mine to compare and it was "centered" vertically.
