so seeing that I am waiting for the rat packs to come out. I decided to make up my own pack until then! I could have bought a maxpedition pack, but I had this waterproof case laying around & thought that would work well on my ESEE 5! not only could it work as a pack, but it waterproof! big bonus! I have not finished filling the waterproof container yet, but I am open to all suggestions as far as what else to put in there.

Cool set-up!

You could add some water purification tabs, fresnel lens, signal mirror, button compass...

Is that dryer lint? I'd ditch that and sub in some vaseline cotton balls in a baggie.

Decent sized needle and some thread, a mini Bic lighter or other simple means of fire. Ferro rods are a great skill and a good backup but a flick of a Bic when you're wet and cold makes sense.

Whistle? No survival kit should be without a whistle.

Mini fishing kit with some line, couple small hooks and some splitshot.

Ahhh, a good old kit thread. Very refreshing. Thanks for posting!

i would add a anti diarrhea med to the kit, fast way to get dehydrated out in the woods, and some of the little squeeze packs of antibiotic ointment.

take it easy

I'd make some wax cotton balls. Not as messy and light and burn just as well. I made some over Christmas and tried it out, they are waterproof until split and burn for a good 10 minutes. I found once you split the ball in half you have to "fluff" the cotton on inside with the tip of your blade if you are using firesteel.
