Bought a 5 a couple of months ago brand new that I believe is older inventory. It's an OD green blade with a kydex sheath, but it does not say Esee 5 on it on the ricasso, it says RAT CUTLERY CO. How old is this knife and are there any differences in design or quality compared to the new name knives?

I think as long as it says "Rowen" on the other side of the ricasso you should be fine... I think these are from early 2010 or earlier, after that is when I think it switched to say ESEE on it instead of Rat Cutlery.

I could be wrong though.

I'll just add to this and say if it does NOT say Rowen on the blade then it is manufactured by Ontario and not covered through ESEE for warranty.

It says RAT Cutlery, it is a Rowen made blade and fully covered under the ESEE warranty. Feb 1 2010 the name was changed from RAT Cutlery to ESEE Knives to eliminate some of the confusion between RAT Cutlery and the Ontario made RAT knives. I'm not sure it helped because now everyone wants to know the difference betwee RAT, RAT Cutlery and ESEE Knives. :D

You're good to go brother, great knife you've got.
