Well, I think I screwed up. I bought a 6 only to find out in TX the blade length max is 5.5". I usually research much more thoroughly, but I have no excuse other than Cranial Rectosis. I would like to know if there are any plans for ESEE to come out with a 5" blade that is 3/16" thick? I can't be alone on this... The rc-5 is just too much for belt carry for me. My buddy has a 4, but I prefer my 6 to the 4. Before anyone tells me to move to a different stae, please note I live in TX. 'Nuff said.:D

You might want to ask TexasTonyDobbs, Shotgunner11, or CricketDave about the blade laws. They all own and carry the 5, Junglas, and Machete Lite, 2 of which are much longer in length than 5.5".

Does that extra 1/16" make that much difference? If the 5 weighs about a pound, it would be less that an ounce, no?

Hmm. Hopefully they'll be along shortly with answers. Maybe it's 5.5" concealed. Thank you for at least giving me hope. I was going to the creek this weekend for some camping with the girls. I love this knife and it would be a shame if I couldn't use it.

I think the 6 comes in a 11.6 oz. or so. Yes, it makes a difference to me. Plus the thicker blade doesn't cut as well IMHO. That's all I do with my knives. Not a big fan of batoning. I know it will do it of course. I usually just burn big stuff in half and keep feeding it to the fire. If I ever have to build a fire in the rain and have to get to dry inner wood I know the 6 will do it just fine. Not knocking the 5, just stating my preference/wishlist item.

Are you wanting to carry your 6 in town, or in the woods?

If you are using it in the woods/field I have a really hard time imagining that there is a length restriction on a non-concealed blade. I realize laws need not make sense, but I figure anywhere I can carry a gun (hunting) there must be no qualms about the length of my knife.

You might want to check some of your local city laws to see if they differ from the state law.

In my neck of the woods (Washington) there is no law regarding knife length, but every city is different. The main cities (Seattle and Tacoma) do not allow fixed blade carry concealed or openly regardless of blade length. So I can't carry my izula, but I'm allowed to carry up to a 3.5" folder. Funny, I have my concealed pistol license but I can't carry a small 2.88" izula...:barf:

Here is a good place to start but I highly advise you look up your cities specific code.

Another question would be how do they measure "blade length"?

The 6 *edge* would actually only be 0.25 too long...if you really like it you could have it shortened pretty easily...just a thought?

5.5" blade maximum here in Tx.

Now when I go to the woods, I regularly carry a 6 and have had no issues. I wouldn't wander into WalMart with it on my belt but in the woods there's a bit more leniency.

But a 5 in the 6's thickness would be my ideal knife.

I thought you could carry a rocket launcher in Texas and no one would blink.

In Texas I can legally carry a concealed handgun. But I can't carry one unconcealed. I can leagally carry an unconcealed rifle or shotgun anywhere basically. But I CAN NOT carry a club, dagger, switch blade or nunchucks.

Some of the laws are pretty funny and we should write our reps about the ones we would like changed.

But as for the knives, machetes or whatever. In the end it is going to be an intenet issue. Is it legal to have a 12 inch blade for cleaning deer. Absolutely! But you just shouldn't have that in the grocery store while you stop to get some food for the hunt etc.

Clip points(sharpen spine) are illegal in TX as well but I still carry my ESEE3MIL CP camping.
I always carry my 6 camping too .... no worries

and to answer your question about a ESEE 5" 3/16th answer is yes....
The Laser Strike
The Laser strike was 10" OAL ,3/16th" ,5" blade with Micarta scales.

Now, correct me if you've been told differently and double check me before taking my word, but I've been told that if you have a CHL AND....AND... your carrying your pistol, you can then carry anything you want knifewise. i.e. an automatic, double edged or oversized.

No pistol on you, your breaking the law but with the pistol.....

Don't know what sense that makes but I was told this by an LEO.

Who would think that in Texas, where Jim Bowie died fighting for the Republic, that Bowie knives would be illegal?

yeah the bowie thing is idiotic so i ignore it. as for carrying the 6 or junglas if your using them for camping or their intended uses your not going to have a problem. now walking through walmart would be another thing.

take it easy and use your 6 its my favorite.

The request for the modified 5 in 3/16 has been mentioned lots of times but I don’t know that we’ll ever see it.

The Laser Strike Mk 2 will be 5” and 3/16” and I’m thinking I might reeeeeally like that knife. Hate to ever say anything will replace my 4 but the LS Mk 2 might be a contender.
