Got my ESEE-6 today in addition to my growing collection of ESEE knives. Truly amazing knife.

The thing that throws me off the most about it is the weight. For a knife of this size you expect it to have a little more heft to it. Not the case at all. Amazingly light for the size. I'd almost like to "complain" that it's too light?

Awesome knife though. Gonna get a little work in with it this weekend.

I was on the fence with the 5 or the 6, but opted for the 6 for various reasons.

Now that it's in my hands though, I almost... and key word "almost" wish I'd got the 5 instead because the weight would feel more "normal." Does that make sense?

Not complaining at all. The ESEE-6 is friggin' great! I plan on getting the entire line anyway. Now I'm a step closer with yet another awesome knife. Thanks ESEE.

Never handled the 6 but after handling the 5 I'd probably have to choose the 6. The 5 is just way to thick for my liking.

i just got my 6 in the mail today as well. i love it! The balance is right on I think. Not too heavy, not too light. I can't say that I prefer the 5 over the 6 because I do not own the 5, but I love this 6! Length, weight, everything is awesome about this knife! i agree with op that I want to own the whole ESEE line. But the 6 I think is going to be the perfect knife for me. Long enough, weighty enough, enough knife. I cant wait to put it through its paces this weekend!

I have both a prefer the 6 due to is lighter weight and great balance. I do love the 5 too, but it is more of a tank. But I tend to go with the 6 more because for a knife that size it is light for the size and comfortable to use.

I've always been flipped between the 5 and 6 since I got them. I came to this conclusion: They're both great knives , but if I want to carry a knife on my belt all day , I want the 6. If it's around the camp or short term heavy duty use ,it's the 5. I do find the 6 a more versatile knife for all around use , and find myself using it a lot more than the 5 . Blade length is very similar , but the flat grind 3/16" thickness of the 6 just basically cuts stuff better for me. Still glad I bought both ( and all the rest of the Esee's!)

I love my 6 and my 5...couldnt pick between the two of em..but none compares to my junglas...

I aggree totally with how to select between the two and I am still glad I have both. I think you spelled out the thought process in which one to pick.

I just received the 6 and I must say that I was surprised as well with how light it is. However the balance and strength make this an amazing knife.

I have the 3 and 4 and all that I needed was that extra length for big survival/bushcraft chores and it has surpassed my expectations.

If you want the weight than you need the 5. But I don't see too many bushcraft skills or camp chores that the 6 can't do.

Cheers

The 6 is a more than capable bushcrafter. I've had a little time to play with it in the short time I've had it.

The funny thing is though since making my initial post about the weight between the 5 & 6, I actually ordered the 5 last night.

Had to have them all. It should be here Monday...looking forward to it!!!

I think in end it is much better to have a complete collection of whatever you're interested in. That includes ESEE knives. At least that's what I tell my wife !!!

Make sure you post pics of all those knives in action.

I was on the fence earlier this year as well, and finally decided that I needed both :P

Now that I have the 5 and 6, I can say Man... the 5 feels SO much more solid in your hand, and feels indestructible... but in all honesty, the 6 was much more useful to me while camping. I've split many logs for my campfires with the 6 - something the 5's grind just isn't made for.

But if I ever needed anything absolutely bomb-proof, and use it as everything a normal knife couldn't (prying, digging, make-shift step, etc.), I wouldn't hesitate to go with a 5.

As an absolute last-ditch survival knife: 5
for camping/bush-stuff: 6

I have the Izzy 3, 4 and 6 but besides the izzy being m EDC the 6 always goes into the woods with me and the poor other two usually sit home or maybe a spare in the pack.... Love the size and feel of the 6 the best AWSOME BLADE!!!!!!
