Took a pic of my gear loadout with the ESEE 6 riding shotgun on the shoulder strap before I headed out for an afternoon hike. The pack is a Max. Condor II.

I like the pack.

Like Tony said....smile dammit!

I have to find a better way to secure the knife inverted. I kept getting smacked in the chin when I looked to the right because it sat so high up. But if I carry it lower it flaps around even with the cord securing it. I may have a thinner fold-over sheath made for it out of kydex and I'll attach a Tek-Lock to it like I do now.

The hike was pretty uneventful. No pics because I left my phone in the car.

I won't smile until I have an ESEE 4 and a Junglas.

Yes, I have been converted.

Welcome to the cult, Ken. ;) Glad to have you here!

Nice rig. I used to like carrying my old RC-4 on my pack strap, which worked really well with the single shoulder strap of the Sitka. This time I think the 3 or the Izula will ride the pack for general utility cutting and I'll keep the new 4 on my body.

Let me make a suggestion: Always carry on your shoulder straps the tool or item you use the most on the trail. To me, it's a compass or GPS and a flashlight. Knife is the least thing I need on a pack strap. Another thing I do is ditch all factory lanyards on equipment and make a real short lanyard for each piece of gear (Compass, GPS, camera, etc.) Then I wear one lanyard around my neck with S Biners clipped in at different levels. So, whatever gear I'm using at the time can be easily clipped in or clipped out. If I want to put it back in its gear pocket then I'm not fighting with a lanyard or have a lanyard that's getting hung on stuff. The system works really good for what I do.

Nice pack..... Can't say as much for the avatar, go Pens! Haha

Screw the Pens, screw Crosby and the rest of that crap team. And no, I'm not kidding. I hate the Pens just as much as I hate the Devils.

Good pic Ken, but you do like the angry outdoorsman.:D It looks like you used the MOLLE clips to attach it towards the handle, or maybe paracord. One thing to do that would bring that top end in would be to lash 1 piece or cord through the top 2 holes (not the very tip) back under the strap then up through the other sides top 2 holes and tighten down. That's how we used to get our Ka-Bars strapped to our pack straps or load bearing gear straps. Those are a good 7" long. I think Jeff had the best idea, to use up that prime area for your most used items, maybe tack on a few multi use pouches. The Maxpedition Cocoon is a long thin pouch that fits perfect on those straps as I have one on my Condor II strap. If you want, shoot me a message and I can shoot you off a couple pics of what it looks like. One of them fit quite a bit of stuff inside, including an Izula w/sheath, cell, flashlight, whatever else... If you like them you can have the 2 extra that I have, I'll just send them off to you.

Dammit. Now I have to buy some more knives.

Next up....

Izula II and a ESEE 3.

Ok, here's a pic for you. Taken by one of my game cameras. I was checking out the deer and fox tracks.

You can see the lanyard dangling from my neck. Just so happens I had no gear on it at the time. But here's the loadout for quick use:

Right should strap: GPS. Left Shoulder strap: flashlight (I work at night a lot in the field). Waist strap: black bag is my point and shoot camera that goes everywhere with me. Left pouch on waist band has two things: an MC2 compass that I use a pretty good bit when running new ground and the basic gun shot kit. (50G QuikClot sponge and a 4x7 pressue bandage). Your gun shot kit should always be in easy access since you dont want to waste time digging through your pack to find it if you need it.

I carry a canteen sometimes as shown in this photo (this one happened to have gatorade in it) and I clip the top with an S biner. I never un-clip when I want to drink. Simply unscrew it. I also carry a water bladder many times even though I'm not a real fan.

Point is this: most every piece of gear I use a lot has a short lanyard about 2" long. When I use it, it clips into my main neck lanyard. When I'm through I simply unclip and slide it back into its pouch. No long lanyards to worry about. System works well for me.
