Hey everyone, so I have to Ontario Rat-7 and it has served me well and is a great knife (one of my favorites I have ever owned). Lately though I have been trying to upgrade components on the knife to fit me better. Now the next thing I want to do is replace the handle because it is slightly to bulky for me. I know my cousin has the RC-6 and I have held it before and absolutely loved the grip, however he is out of state for a while and I cant see if the handle would fit. It would be great if someone has any knowledge on this, and whether the RC-6 handle would fit on the Ontario Rat-7.

Thank you all very much, Matt.

I've used 100 grit sandpaper to modify the micarta handles of my Afghan, RD-4, and my RD Hawk. They are users to me, and I wasn't too worried about scratching the exposed tang. The end result is a smoother micarta, but the fit of the handle is so much better. Micarta gets dirty and smooths out a bit anyway. You could even take the scales off to sand them if you wanted to keep the tang coated.
Sorry I can't help with your original question, but you could just save yourself some money, the Ontario micarta is quality, and reshaping would be very cheap. Oh yeah, don't breath in the micarta dust, it's like espestus (sp), as far as being toxic.
Good luck with your handle either way.

Thank you very much, I will definitely try that but if anyone can answer the original question anyway that would be great because I sorta want a spare handle anyway and Esee's replacement handles are pretty inexpensive.

I have had both at the same time, I never swapped out the handle slabs but they seemed like the grip screws were in the same place. i've sold the rat7 since or i'd try swapping them out to see. You can get a set of the esee6 scales or the esee5 scales which are my favorite and the same size from the esee website now seperatly for 25 bucks. I doubt you would have any trouble selling them and getting your money back if they didnt fit.

So the Esee 5 and Esee 6 handles are the same length? If thats the case then I will definitely be getting myself some Esee 5 slabs because I love the bow drill spot. Sorry for all the questions just want to make sure im getting what I want, really appreciate all the help on these forums!

yes they are the same length, the 5 scales are slightly thicker than the 6 scales. I just like the canvas micarta and the bowdrill divot better than the standard linen micarta.

here is a 6 with 5 scales in a leather sheath
