ESEE 6 or Junglas Machete?

I purchased my first ESEE knife a few days back and since receiving my ESEE RC 4 I couldn't be happier. So since you guys give great advice I am looking for more.

I am looking to replace my old, cheap but extremely well used machete. When deciding on my first ESEE I had trouble deciding between the 4 and the 6. Now that I'm looking to replace the machete I'm wondering what would be the best choice - the ESEE 6 or the Junglas Machete.

It seems like it would be obvious to replace a machete with another machete but when you described the 6 in my previous threads it sounded like a good multi purpose blade.

My main use for my current machete is building survival shelters while limbing and slicing as well as shaping snow in the winter. I do not fight green jungle leaves or anything real thick except for through bushes when operating in SAR.

Can the ESEE 6 limb spruce/pine/fir without wasting energy. Or is the machete the way to go?

Please help - my gun taped machete handle won't last much longer.!!

For what you're looking to do, the Junglas is the best option.

The ESEE 6 can do all the things you've mentioned, but it will be a lot more work,

and take a lot more time.

Plus the Junglas, is really, really cool!!

are we talking about the Junglas or the Lite machete ?
To me since you have an ESEE4 I'd mate it with the Lite Machete....

I was looking at the Junglas because the Lite Machete's dimensions are too long for carrying in my SAR vest. My vest is a load bearing vest with attached rear pack and kangaroo pockets. So the area i currently carry my short machete is down the back with my internal hydration sleeve.

I like the multi purpose of the 6 and the dimensions of both fit my kit, I just want to make sure that they can limb with ease. If the Junglas is far better for limbing than i wouldn't worry about multi-purpose.

If anyone has the Junglas and photos of hand/knife comparison that would be much appreciated.

Plus anyone who has used one for limbing please let me know !!

I appreciate all opinions negative or positive towards any knife for my intended usage.

What else do you use your Junglas for? Do you find it a good all round large blade knife?

Chopping, limbing, and batoning mostly.

Also great for shelter building.

Anything you would use a large blade for, the junglas will excel.

The 4 is so close to the size of the 6, I wouldn't bother with the 6. The Junglas is much better for shelter building and the like. It can do anything the 6 can do, and do some things better. Might not be as good at some of the smaller tasks, but that's why large knives get paired with small ones.

I have the 4 and I just wanted to make sure the Junglas would do the job that a machete would do as well as having some of the all round qualities the 6 has..

The advice is great. Thanks

can't go wrong with the handle, it's just perfect ;)

Wriggs - I already posted in your other thread, but here's my experience with the Junglas - I used it to clear a bunch of thumb to wrist thick (2-3") dogwood and honey locust. It chewed through everything with ease. The 6 will cut down 3" trees, but it takes 3-4 times as long. It's also not as efficient with the really thin stuff because it doesn't have the length to cut through when the stem bends away from the swing.
The 6 will limb just fine, but again - the Junglas will be faster, more efficient, and use less energy. (simple physics - if your hand is moving the same speed, the tip of the longer blade is moving faster than the tip of the shorter one -- same reason why an 18" machete chops better than a 14" one)

either way, don't forget a lanyard!

I use a Rtak II for all my chopping and it is paired with a rc3.....From everything i have heard the junglas is better then the rtak....i would def. go with the junglas

The Junglas is what you are looking for. It will be a lot more efficient in use then the ESEE 6.

The 6 is great for small batoning, and as a multiple use knife. It's no where near as effective at chopping as the junglas is. If you have the room, go junglas

Go Junglas for machete replacement. The 4 and 6 are to close in function. The Junglas is in a class all by itself.
