hey guys

i am looking for a tough as nails blade for camping and survival. i own an izula and love it,but am looking for a bigger blade. looking at the 6 and junglas. all comments are welcome. thanks.

ps. is the 6 really too small for most chopping and batonning?

a knife to do it all ? shut up and take my money !

I only own the 6, but it is pretty nice. It chops ok, but not very well. It will baton.

IMHO, the Becker BK9 is much more bang for your buck, and much better all around. (How can I always forget: yes, Busse&kin make nice blades, too.)

Junglas if you really want a large blade. Check out scrapyards offerings too. The BK9 is a great option as well.

Depends on how much bigger you want your bigger blade to be. And that depends on what you want to do with it. If you are looking for a big chopper then the Junglas is the way to go. If you are looking for a blade that isn't quite so long as the Junglas but which can do a lot of different jobs more easily than the Junglas then the Esee 6 is the way to go. Both are rugged, have great heat treat and the famous Esee warranty.

Okay, since you have the Izula I'd say you have fine motor skill tasks(skinning dinner, surgery, fish hook building, etc...) covered with that.

I own multiple ESEE's(including a 6/ Izula 2) and a Becker BK9. I'm a huge fan of ESEE but I'd definitely say get the BK9 over the Junglas if you're set on a big chopper. The handle is just so much better with the Becker, especially with micarta or modded with tennis racket grip tape. It's also gonna be more versatile than the Junglas.

Now if you were just taking one blade out into the field I'd recommend the ESEE 6 as the choil allows you to choke up more and skin an animal better. Also, if you need to chop bigger things, batoning is a much more energy efficient way of getting the job done IMO. The ESEE 6 will baton just fine.

So, bottom line, if you're gonna be taking the Izula with you get a Becker BK9(or Junglas I suppose). If you're not gonna take the Izula into the field then get the ESEE 6.

Also, the only knife task I don't really like doing with a big blade is skinning(if you haven't noticed lol). One way to solve this problem is to buy a scalpel and blades for under $10 and keep them in the sheath with the big chopper. The blades are in protective little packs and are very slim and light, as is the scalpel. There is not a better tool for skinning than a scalpel IMHO. Also, the blades are sterile so they work great for small surgeries like getting out splinters and such. BTW if you cut down a scalpel handle it will fit in an Altoids tin with 10 or more blades and a ton of room to spare.

Of those two, I'd go with the 6 - I thinks it's a more versatile tool. And as stated above, if all you want is a big chopper, get the BK9.

Neither blades are good for chopping because they're on the thin side. My CS Trailmaster out chops the Junglas. I got rid of my 6 because it's not all that different from my Kabar. Check out Scrapyards or Swamp Rats.

thanks guys
i looked at the bk9 and really liked it. so performance wise, is there anything essential that the bk9 can do that the esee6 can't
