ESEE-6 use

I got a chance to give the ESEE-6 some work time this weekend. I used it pretty hard including chopping, batoning, and making feather sticks. Used it for three days pretty hard without a sharpening to see how it would hold up . In the end, it was relatively dull, but had no chips rolls or visible micro serrations. Should be a simple sharpening job. Overall, I’m pretty pleased.

I’ve been using mine by the outdoor fire pit just making feather sticks and batoning and have been impressed with it too.

Mine really can really carve a stick!

I even left it out for 3 days during all the rain and believe it or not no rust has formed on it.

Had it for around 6 years probably at least and never used it.

How’s the handle, looks comfortable.

Its very comfortable but slightly slick for chopping. I intend to throw on a paracord lanyard for additional support. I have an RC-4, now called an ESEE 4, and the micarta or G-10 (can't remember which) on that is a little less slick, but the 3D contour is more comfy.

Honestly I’d be fine right now if the zombies started coming and everything collapsed with this knife in hand.

I’ve got a lot of way more expensive knives, and for the money this one right here would do everything I would need from it.

No, lol I don’t plan on selling my others just quite yet.

It’s a great knife for the money. I have a stripped user with the original scales that has been an excellent performer. One of the best aspects of it is ease of sharpening. You can solid days work out of it and a couple of strokes on stone and she’s raring to go. I’m partial to the Becker line, but the Esee 6 is one best all around mid weight “survival” knives ever built. Like adluginb adluginb and Jason M D. Jason M D. I too am a victim of the expensive knife disease.

I've done a few in Citri Strip as well.

Think maybe I’ll strip my 6 here soon. If I was in a true survival situation obviously I would be more cognizant of the fact that I need to make sure it is dry and not left somewhere in water. But even so, I have left my 6 out in the back yard through 2 days of rain and it barely got a little patina, minor corrosion on the uncoated edge. I hit it with a a cheap stone and away it went.

Reason I like stainless more is with the amount of knives I have I forget to care for the carbon models and they’ll develop some small spots. I don’t like patina or rust spots so that is why I have sold most of my carbon blades. But the ESEE 6 will remain with me. I can care for 1 carbon blade and a bad ass one at that. In a true societal collapse I doubt I’d worry about seeing some spots. But yeah I am going to leave the coating under the scales just for better protection under there.

Kleen Strip. Worked great. I kept the coating under the scales.

My 6 stays in the truck. If I haven’t used it in a while, I’ll check it and tend to it if needed. I don’t put any kind of oil on it.
Stains and patina don’t bother me.
One thing I did after striping was hit it with the buffer wheel a little. Slicks things up just a bit. Makes it a little less susceptible to rust, and easier to wipe off.
I need to clean my scales.

I had originally stripped mine because I wanted to buff the blade a little as GB940Rookie mentioned, then cold blue the blade and hit the scales with black dye or double black dye if it needed it after the first one. I got to the point where it is just stripped and have not followed through with the other parts. But I still intend to.

That would be an interesting look. Would like to see that.
