I am contemplating the purchase of an esee adv survival kit. Mainly because it is small and it contains items that i can believe will assist you through hostile/survival situations. I have my own home made PSK's, but i think the ESEE advance kit is superior based on its size and function.

Has anyone bought one? do you like it? is it worth the money to buy? if i purchased this kit it would be an EDC item.

thank you all for any imput!

I’m not going to knock the ESEE kit…heck, all the components are top notch and for many, the hassle of searching, purchasing from many different spots and assembly can be too time consuming or just a PITA. However, the advantage of building your own is ensuring it fits your needs, activities and you get much more intimate with the components.

I have a kit much like ESEE’s, but it was built around my specific needs in a combat zone and with a pouch designed to attach to an IOTV but still capable of quickly detaching if I had to drop the IOTV in a hurry (such as crashing into a river or large water way).

Most components can be purchased from County Comm or Be Prepared to Survive; both have a good array of kit components.

Here was the one I built specifically for my missions in Afghanistan:

The pouch was actually designed as a FAK break-away pouch, but works perfectly for my combat PSK.

Even if you end up getting the ESEE kit, don’t hesitate to use, modify and personalize the kit for your own needs. I really Ritter’s little PSK, but the two I own have been completely rebuilt and modified…they make a great platform or starter kit if you really want to get serious about having one on hand when needed. Since you have already built some PSK’s you’ll know what I’m getting at. Good luck!

I think that before you make a decision to buy any kit, perhaps consider reading this book.

Its unprecedented in the depth of knowledge and detail the author encompasses. Its also a whole lot of fun to learn from someone who shares their enthusiasm as well as their expertise for this life or death subject.

I have to second or third Rock 6 & AeroNautiCal's thoughts. ESEE has some outstanding items, great knives & a great warranty. I have not had any dealings with County Comm, but I can tell you I have a drawer full of shipping conformations from John & Denise. Their company is top notch, fast shipping, great knowledge of the subject, top of the line products, not cheap knock-off's. I have two copies of Mr. McCann's book, one he autographed for my wife at Christmas, & he also gifted some of his bandanas to her when she was going through her chemo treatments last winter.
Read the book, it starts with the smallest kits you can make and goes the gamut all the way to the large personal kits, and even ones made for boats, cars, trucks, ATV's, etc.
Good luck with your choices, I would almost bet a dollar to a doughnut you wont' stop with just one kit . . . . ;)
Be safe.

Thanks for the imput guys! I have two really well thought out kits. One is in a pelican case and the other in a voodoo tactical zip up case, its about 7"X8".

i have everything i need between those two kits. I keep one in my vehicle or backpack and one on my person at all times...only thing is i have been unable to build a small kit that has what i need/want in it without it getting to large. The ESEE ADV kit is exactly what i want with the addition of my IZULA or ESEE 3/multi tool combo.

we will see. at first i was shocked at the cost of the kit at around 120$ from warriors and wonders, but if i priced out every item in one of my kits that i made the price would be well over 200$ for sure. If not more.

I am going to do a review on my two kits for all of you to see, criticise and compliment!

I'll be going to one of his courses in June or July

Yeah, I recommend building your own. Customization is best. Most crap out there is a gimmick, but probably half way useful. I enjoy building my own. :D
