Hi All,

I just wanted to drop in as a Rat Pack member and ESEE loyal to say that I really appreciate good knives and good knife makers, and I consider Becker Knife and Tool to be one of the best companies out there. I've owned a BK-14 and used a BK-2 a bunch in my time, but my experiences with Becker are limited compared to many of you I'm sure.

This forum seems to be getting more action now, and for a good reason. The knives are quality and at the right price, and I'd recommend them to anyone.

At times, there can seem to be a void or even hostility between members of our two forums. Most of it is light spirited and good fun, but what it comes down to is that these are two very good but very different companies with some very fired up people backing each. It doesn't surprise me that some of the members in either forum sometimes want to pound on our chests and brag about our knives.

As my SIG says, sometimes two different groups of people can look at the exact same things, have a completely different opinion and both be right. If there was a noob out there that couldn't decide between a Becker or an ESEE, the good thing is that whichever one he chooses, he's made the right choice...

I think most of us would recommend to any noob to just buy both! :D:thumbup: between Becker and ESEE there is pretty much everything size/shape/style one would need from a hard use knife.

Check out (and share) some of your patina's over here man.

I don't have an ESEE or RAT, except an Ontario RAT-1 that I really like, have a couple Beckers, and completely agree with you. Both companies seem to make great products, back them up, and appreciate their customers and each other. If not, would there be an ESKABAR? A good knife is a good knife, period, to me.

Hi All,

I think the reason for the "rivalry" is actually that the two companies are so similar. They both produce solid, hardworking knives. As well, they have knives sized similarily throughout their ranges:

Izula, IzulaII/ Eskabar, BK-11
Esee 5/ BK-2
Esee-6/BK-7
Junglas/ BK-9

There are some differences, IE, the ESEE-3 and 4, Lite Machete(which could be matched by the old Becker Patrol Machete), and the BK-3, BK-5, and all the older out of production Beckers. But, for most of what is currently available from Becker, there's a counterpart from ESEE, and vice versa, especially when the Tweeners come out.

I had an ESEE-6 for a short while. I wanted so badly to love that knife. It was perfect for what I wanted it for, but, the handle ergos just weren't my thing. So, I got rid of it, and I'ma get a BK-7, the contours on the Becker handle slabs are awesome IMO. Heck, I ordered a sheath for it today and I haven't even bought the knife yet:o

Anyhoo, W+SS, the Becker and the ESEE forums are about the only ones here I regularily check. They're all packed with cool stuff, good info, and good people with a similar mindset.

No reason to have to choose one over the other, have both!

piss off mate! :D :D :D

don't post porn :)

visit more often :> :> :> :>

I have knives from both companies and do recommend either brand without reservation.

I think the rivary is good, when not mean spirited.
What real complaint can anyone make about either company.
I own both BECKER and esee and like them both but not everything they make.

Thanks Jgon, for posting this up. It is quite true, we love to give each other hell, and mostly because of the similarities of ESEE and BKT. In the knives and the people.

Not just anyone can have fun, compete, and do the things that we do without it getting out of hand. More is the pity, but at least we can do it, and do it well.

I think most folks own both Becker and ESEE and those that are to close minded to own both, don't really get what we have going on here. I own both, and will continue to buy both, as well as give Jeff, Mike, and ESEE Crew hell, just as they give me, Ethan, Bladite, and the Becker crew hell.

We used to have a saying when I worked construction, "I make fun of you because I like you and care, if I didn't like you, I just wouldn't talk to you at all". I think that sums it up quite nicely.

I owned a RTAK, it was junk, terrible ergos, terrible balance, terrible heat treat, terrible grinds, I had gotten demonized for saying so, ever since then, any of the ESEE stuff looks good making a dent in other peoples pockets.

I like the way ESEE stuff looks, not keen on paying for it though, if I were to pay that much for 1095 by Rowen it will be TOPS stuff the Walkabout, Screaming Eagle and Anaconda 7" all have a spot in my kit. That little Walkabout may just be the best EDC fixed blade that no one knows about...

I guess I'm just not a dedicated enough customer. I like knives and people from both. Except that Moose guy. Pretty sure he's up to no good.

ROFLMAO!!!

Yeah, I guess I do. Yeah, those were my girls scurryin' around when I was talkin' to ya. We were doin' the "time for Bed and Teethbrushin'" roundup that has become quite the rage around my place lately.

:D LOL

I think that Moose summed it up nicely.

The 'I bug ya cuz I like ya.' thing is what i tell everyone I like if they start to think that I'm bugging up too much. If I didn't like ya I wouldn't do it.

My opinion is that some people are taking the rivalry a little too far because IMO they think it is what they are suppose to do.

From what I've read and researched, both companies make very comparable knives. You can't go wrong with either one.

I own both and think Esee and Becker are the best knives I have used.

The designers/owners are awesome, the knives are Tuff and made to function beyond there performance, warranty is excellent, both made in the U.S.A. which is excellent.

Even if some of the Esee guys are a little Ghey at least they like knives,......;)

What more could ask for?

Yeah, these are the only 2 forums I ever check. Between my BK2, BK11, and Esee 4 I'm in total agreement!
