So, I mentioned this a while back, but I wanted to make my Father in Law and Step-Father personal survival kits of a sort using the Esee Arrowhead. The arrow was the main gift, but I thought it needed a good presentation. The contents were based on one main philosophy--cheap! I bought stuff over the last few months and snuck it in with the grocery budget. They can add to them or modify as they see fit.

Contents include:
Esee arrowhead with survival card (magnet to the lid)
Waterproof matches with striker glued in
Fishing line around a sewing bobbin
Hooks, swivels, weights in a tube
D-ring
Split ring
Can opener tool
zip ties
cord locks, 1 with the paracord nylon inners from wrapping my Izula

I also bought a little LED light, but it wouldn't fit inside. Would like to have included paracord but ran out of space.

Where did you get that Altoids tin? I've never see a pinup one before.

On the Izula packaging they have instructions for traps made from rings. I was just thinking random cheep stuff that might be useful for something like that. There is about 50 cents for both pieces, so cheap was the main reason. Like I said, they can do what they want with it.

The pin-up was a special run of tins they made a few years ago. That woman is 100% digital, not a model. At the time, that was a big deal.

Nice work. For a little extra I would add a fire steel, but as is you have a wonderful gift set.

I did want to include the fire steel but never had the opportunity to find the cheap ones local. I went for the matches as an alternative.

I am working on something like this of my own, and the Esee fire-starter is likely to be part of the deal.

The best micro-sized ferrocerium rod I have found is the BSA Hot Spark. It's excellent and my favorite type for "tins."

I think what you did was very thoughtful! I hope your family can appreciate that sort of thing, that type of gear. A lot of people just think we're bonkers for being into this stuff... :)

If I may make a recommendation for your future work...these are fantastic, and I have had some good (actually fantastic) dealings with them.

Very cool. Be careful, kits are contagious. You'll be modifying and build kits forever now. Muwhahahahahaha!.

Update:
The gifts were well received. Both men had thoughts about what they might add or change to make it their own. Very happy with the results. Now I just have to put together my own.

Thats a great idea, looks like you got a good kit there, where did you find that sweet altoids tin?
