Esee blade coating

I daresay most people don't. But since they don't need advice on how to not strip the coating they're probably just happy enjoying them and not posting :)
I can see the attraction in stripping the coating; it removes what some may consider a tacticool appearance. Also some people just like shiny or patina.

I stipped the coating off of mine to aide in slicing. I was cutting a bunch of cardboard and tape at the time and felt it added some drag. After stripping and polishing it, I noticed a big improvement in cutting ability. Also, I'm a chronic modifier and couldn't help myself. :)

i guess to make it more sharp

I would say a variety of reasons! This one seems logical! The chronic modifier statement just makes it seem like a perfect fit!

As others have mentioned it makes it smoother for cutting through things like wood, cardboard, etc.. I have noticed many people who want to use their Esee's for bushcraft tasks prefer a bare blade for wood processing tasks and for striking a ferrocerium rod.

I agree that most people probably don't take the coating off. It is sort of abrasive like skyhorse said. I have 5 Esee knives but only one I removed the coating. The coating will naturally come off during use. When my other blades start showing excessive wear I will probably remove the coatings as needed. It is fun to mod and add a patina!

I love stripping my esee's and beckers. Slices smoother, looks better and after heavy use, sharpen and sand w/ high grit sandpaper and it is as good as new. I don't even care if it rusts, I just sand off the rust and woolah, good as new.

I've found that using the blade smoothes the coating out enough for my uses. I live in a very humid, coastal environment so the coating's advantages far exceeds its "tacticool" look.

Rust issues at all with the coating? I ask because I have used my 3 a good bit around salt water and have never had a problem. I have been amazed how the coating has prevented any problems!

Personally I like the coating (and to clarify I don't think it's tacticool on the RAT style knives). Mostly because I have hands that could rust titanium. I like some knives with exposed carbon steel but sometimes it's nice to know that I don't have to worry about rust at all.

No, I have yet to have any issues with rust. Once coating is removed on any one spot I make sure to put a coating of some type of oil on before it goes back into storage
