I just ordered one of these in black with the micarta scales and intent on carrying it for everyday use. I realize it is quite small but figured I would give it a try anyways. I wanted to see if anyone else carries/uses one of these and how it wrks out for them? All input is greatly appreciated!

To be honest I was initially intrigued with the Candiru. Then I saw them next to an Izula which is basicly my down size limit. I have XL hands and really can't see how a person could use the tiny thing. A ''two finger knife'' ? as I have heard it described. I just don't see the point.

I recently got one and have been carrying it on and off. I don't have meaty hands, so it's a nice 3 finger knife for me. I'd definitely recommend getting the scales, as they greatly improve the ergonomics. The problem I've been having, though, is that the scales prevent my candiru from fitting snugly in the sheath. Without the handles the knife locks into the sheath nicely, but with the handles, mine will fall out of the sheath with just a shake. I like that the sheath keeps the knife nice and small, but if I were to neck carry it, my candiru would fall out of the sheath pretty easily once I opened the Velcro.

Others may have a different experience.

Thanks for all the info guys. If the stock sheath has issues with scales I think I should just buy one of the aftermarket kydex around. I'm sure someone could make one easily. I'll update as soon as it comes in!

Lots of pocket sheaths available for the candiru. It's a great little blade, i know you'll enjoy it. I usually just toss mine in the bag with me whenever i go somewhere, nice to have as a backup or an edc.

The sheath works as well with or without scales. I often carry it in my messenger bag. It's a nice compact package. Last summer I carried it in the woods tied to the shoulder strap of my backpack. Fit really well. The sheath is good for those uses. Not as good if you're constantly reaching for the knife, because of the velcro (and it doesn't really stay in sheath securely without the flap). I like it. Like others have said already, it's much nicer in the hand with the scales.

light splittung of aged mesquite hard wood very tough, but the candiru did a great job. I was very surprised how well it felt in my hands. I have pretty big hands xl gloves. but with a three finger grip the knife cuts and splits wood with ease.

Lately I have been using this setup.

I believe one the intended uses of the Candiru was for it to be a survival kit knife. I keep mine in an administrative pouch from Tactical Tailor and it works well in that role.

When it first came out, I wondered what it would do that the Izula doesn't and now after using it a few times I can say I really like it. It's quite a bit smaller than the Izula.

^ is that a Pocono sheath? Is it hard to get the Candiru out of it (seeing how deep it goes)? Do you use any other fixed blades with that sheath (I have a BRKT necker that might fit too)?

Yes it is a ksf pocono sheath. Fits the candiru perfect and not hard to remove. I also use a bhk patch knife that fits very well.

I'm glad you posted the KSF sheath. I just got a Candiru and a set of micarta scales. I love the knife but the sheath is pretty bad. I've got a kydex being made for it but I think I'll pick up one of the Poconos too.

Thanks for all the replies. This has def. made me more confident in my purchase. I'm looking forward to using this one quite a bit! Intended uses would be general cutting at work and maybe some finer woods work? I contemplated on getting a spyderco bushcraft but figured I would give this a go first.

I love mine. I have big hands (I prefer folders with around a 4.5 inch handle) and I can get a good grip on it.

However, an aftermarket sheath is necessary IMO. The stock one is awful.

The sheath you have with yours is very appealing. Mind if I asked who made it?

Not at all man.

It was made by forum member AZWelke. It's a fantastic sheath, good retention but not too sticky. His turnaround was quick, his prices are very reasonable and he offers a bunch of different colors. He also melts and polishes the seam to give it a nice finished look.

Well my new Candiru just came in. I put on the new micarta scales I ordered for it and I have to say, this is an impressive little knife.
The knife was a little smaller than expected but it does not matter because this knife has superb control! I will post some pictures when I get a chance! Thanks again for all the information guys, I'm glad I decided to get one of these.

Cool pic, I have a ST200 aswell.

I've been wanting a Candiru, but on the other hand I love my Izula too much, I feel like it'd be competing for pocket-time too much.

No longer mine as I have just traded it. Nice little blade.
