A quick video I did of my Candiru... Awesome neck knife!

Nice informative Video, nice Knife too, thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately I am still not nearer to a decision if I want the Candiru or the Izula II (for EDC) ... what would you recommend?

Good vid.

Nal0n, what are you going to use them for?

I have both. As a small necker I like the Candiru. It's small enough to carry any way you like. The Izula isn't that much bigger but just feels more substantial. Either way, they're both a small neck knife and not meant for heavy duty.

As an aside, there is an episode of River Monsters on Nat'l Geographic channel(IIRC), which details the candiru. Make Piranha look like weak-sisters!~

addylo, thanks for the reply.

Short Answer: Due to local laws I almost exclusively EDC small to medium fixed blade although I seldom leave the city and work in the office most of the time.
So there will be no heavy duty, just the usual package opeining, fixing breakfast, cut cardboard, a cable-tie here and there, etc.

Long answer for those who want to read a bit about the crazy German knife laws:

We are allowed to own, but not carry folding knives, that can be opened and locked one-handed, unless we have a legal reason (like your job, sports, maintain your local customs and traditions, etc.).
There is, unfortunately, 2 problems with that:
1. The law is very inaccurate and there is no way to know what those "legal reasons" are exactly.
2. The definition of one-handed is not exact either. At first it was thought by most that one-handed means flippers, thumb studs, thumb discs, etc. and that a knife without them would be safe. The police acts more along the line of: If an average dextrous person can somehow (including things like grapping the blade and flicking the handle down to open etc.) open the knife one-handed without extra practice it is a one-handed knife as defined by the laws.

So in short: the police can take almost any modern folder away from you and there is nothing much you can do about it :(

Because of that I started EDCing small to medium fixed blades (fixed blades are ok as long as the blade is not longer than 12 cm (~ 4,72 Inches)).

So I guess both will easily be able to do what I need them for.
If I were to go more outdoorish like hiking and camping, etc. I would get a bigger and sturdier fixed blade and perhaps a small hatchet for that :-)

Understand. We've got states with knife laws just as restrictive, ambiguous, and crazy. Luckily, Texas isn't one of them.

Honestly, if I had to choose between the Izula and Canidru I'd go with the Izzy every time. You won't be chopping firewood with either but it can get more jobs done than its smaller brother.

Jaja, der §42a :thumbdn:

I'd recommend the Izula (II), the Candiru is too short IMHO.
My favourite is actually the Kershaw 1080, about the same size of the Izula, but I prefer stainless for food prep.
Another option is buying from one of the many great knifemakers on this board here, many offer their wares for very reasonable prices

I don't have the Izula II, just the Izula... I would probably go with an Izula over the Candiru...

Thanks for the info on the Kershaw, looks nice too.
But as I just started collecting a few months ago I still keep to the "classics" to learn what they are all about and to be able to understand the comparisons better, that are made here and elsewhere so often :)

I prefer the Izula II over the Izula just because I do like to have scales on my handles off the shelve, a problem the candiru has too unfortunately.

So it will be the Izula II for me as soon as my bank account allows, thanks again!

Scales are available for the Izzy 1 and Candiru but yeah, they do cost extra.

With the Candiru being such a small necker I didn't think it needed scales. Then on a whim I recently bought a set and now I like the knife even more. Much better ergo.

Love your vids Smokinape. But for someone like myself that wears an XL glove, I just can't see using anything smaller than the Izula 2. Interesting little blade though, thanks.

Thanks man! I have wanted to try the Becker 14 or 24 which is very similar, just haven't gotten around to it...

Nice video, man! I'm very interested in this one, as I'm sure it just disappears in your pocket.

I have a BK11, and I just love it. The only difference is the handle shape.

I have a Candiru (with added scales) in my pocket right now in a Kydex sheath I bought from the auction site that rhymes with June 6, 1944. Light as a folder but no issues with pocket lint gumming up a lock or other mechanical worries. Just easy EDC.
