I noticed these on sale last week and ordered a set. Finally had a chance to use them today and was impressed. A very nice set for the money. I was effortlessly shaving paper-thin slices off a tomato with the small Santoku.

The set comes with a nice selection of blades:
• 7” Santoku Knife
• 5 1/4" Santoku Knife
• 6 3/4" French Cook Knife
• 6” Utility Knife

The only knives I would wish for would be an 8" chef's knife and 4" paring knife.

I know nothing about the German DIN 1.4116 stainless steel but they are FFG (which I like). We'll see how well they hold an edge after more use. The santoprene handles provide a good purchase and fits my medium-sized hands well enough.

And they do come with the usual ESEE lifetime no-questions-asked warranty.

Anyone else have them?

Yes, I have it, have purchased several sets last year, and a bunch more this year for Christmas gifts. At $44.95, they are a steal.

Bumping an old thread....

I bought these for my girl about 2 years ago. They have proven to be very, very nice. Granted, we don't have any other mid/high end to compare to. But they are still very sharp and now that I have really learned to use the Spyderco sharpener, I may take them to the fine stone.

I see these are discontinued, which is sad news, because I would like to buy another set. The rubber grip is actually very comfortable...for her small hands and my gorilla hands.

Anyone have a set they want to part with?

Regarding the steel (composition) it's been referred before as German 440a...

Structurally it has just a bit less carbon, chromium, and slightly less molybednum as 440a; so while probably just a hair behind in terms of overall edge retention it does have a small amount of added vanadium which 440a lacks which the harder carbides should help with a better and longer lasting "working edge" even after the micro edge would begin to dull.

On the flip side it has slightly more carbon and chromium as 420hc, plus molybednum which 420hc lacks, but just half the vanadium...

So all in all based on those specs I would say it fits somewhere right alongside with those two.

Just fwiw.
