Hello finally!
I've been lurching around since November, learning as much as I can and sneaking in on your conversations.
Wifey got me an Izula for Christmas, along with a Sharpmaker. I have put both to good use already, and I have never found an easier system or knife to sharpen. Just a few passes on each set of stones got my Izzy hair-popping sharp. (Not that it needed it, but I just had to try!!)
Anyways, I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of wrap I would do. I initially did the simple weave that is illustrated when the knife arrives. It felt really good, but I wanted something a bit more personalized.
Here is what I came up with.
(sorry for no pics of the process). I started by wrapping each arm of the frame with the two different colors. Started wrapping by the pinky hole working toward the blade. Then I did the traditional weave pattern alternating colors. That's why it looks so thick, because there is another layer of paracord underneath.
The pinky hole is even double wrapped. Finished with an awkward knot that sits against my belt. When it's in my hand it is facing out instead of into my palm (GO SOUTHPAWS!!)
I ordered the Gobspark Armageddon from firesteels.com, along with some 2" rods. I wanted to stick the rod inside the wrapped handle, but I didn't feel like unwrapping it, so I wrapped it to the sheath! It is very secure, and won't budge a bit. It's there if I need it, but no way it's coming loose.
Backside of the sheath. It attaches to my belt at about 1 o'clock position (cross draw - stole the idea from the positioning of the Clinch Pick by Shivworks).
I have about 12' of cord on the handle, and then another 3 on the sheath.
That's all for now!
