I've been away for a while, but hoping the ESEE folder is still in the works. Are they still making a go at it? Any ETA?

I would post over at the Randall's adventure forums, but apparently registration is "closed"? Does anyone know how to get an invite?

Thanks.

They have a sticky about the closed registration over there somewhere. IIRC, you have to email them and request that they register you.

The last I heard they were putting it on the back burner until they can find a US maker to produce the knife. I thought they were going to get Rowen to make the knife, but I havn't heard anything about for a while now.

They haven't been able to find a single USA maker able or willing to take the project on, and they've even checked with places that don't traditionally manufacture knives. Given that that attempt has failed, they're looking into a high-quality Taiwanese maker, which I'm ok with. They're a socio-economic ally of the USA and since no one here was willing to do it...what can you do?

I thought Rowen was going to make their folder?

If I remember correctly, it was supposed to be Lionsteel. However, after the DPx HEST folder fiasco, ESEE canned the project.

Actually, while it was supposed to be Lionsteel, that deal fell through BEFORE the DPx fiasco. The ESEE folks had thought everything was squared away with the project but that was apparently a miscommunication on Lionsteel's part and they (Lionsteel) had to cancel the project. Which left Jeff and Mike in the lurch and they had to start searching for a manufacturer all over again.

on the other ESEE forum they said they were most likely going with a taiwanese maker. i think rowan was too overbooked to do the folders.

I believe that Rowen would need to retool a bit in order to manufacture folders because they are currently only making fixed blades. I seem to recall Jeff saying that he would be talking to a Taiwanese company soon (as FourtyTwoBlades said).
