ESEE for a Beckerhead??

I love my Beckers (BK2,3,9,11,14and EsKaBar).

The Bk2 is my mule, use it for everything, got the EsKaBar with the Izula scales and love it.

Been looking for a good EDC on my days off (non suit and tie) and pre ordered the HEST folder because if all of the fine things that have been tested and proved by these the fixed version.

I wonder what would be a good starter ESEE knife aside from the Izula. ESEE 3?4? The wait for the HEST/F is a killer. Would all recommend getting the HEST fixed over the others?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also is the 4 too small to fix the PSK pack to?

Thanks!

Between the 3 and 4, I'd go 4. The extra length makes batoning a lot easier. That being said, as a Beckerhead, you'll enjoy the 5. It's cut from the same cloth as the BK2, but with better fit and finish. The 5 is my "pound the crap out of it" tool of choice.

Thanks fellas,

The 3 with the orange g-10 looks sweet, I'm not fond of the coyote sheath though. Definetly a good size for an EDC.

I am digging the 5 with the sheath options as well.

I guess that's the blessing and the curse with well built knifes and options....what is one to do, buy both ?

Precisely. I will never forget looking at the 3 and 4 side by side, picking the 4 for my first and saying "Well they're so close in size I won't need to get a 3 later...." Wrong. 3MIL lives in my go-bag. :D

Great EDC's : Izula and Esee 3
Do it all : Esee 4
Never say Die : Esee 5
Esee4 on steroids : Esee 6
Rock and chop : Junglas
Stuck in a bad place in a 3rd world country: H.E.S.T.

Owning all the Esee line......priceless :D

I started with the ESEE3, G10, OD/Orange. Its a favorite of mine for all occasions. I got the 4 next, and honestly, its a good do all, bushcrafter type setup. Izula was next, AH1, etc. I own a BK2 so there is no reason for me to buy the ESEE5. I want a Junglas, but I have a BK9. Most of the ESEE and Becker line coincide after you get to the ESEE5, 5/2, 6/7, Junglas/9. When the tweeners come out next year, it will be Tweener/4. Izula/BK11/EsKabar (:D)

That's why I say ESEE3 for the start, Becker doesn't have anything in that category. Maybe someday, but not now.

Either way, any knife made my ESEE or Becker is gonna last a lifetime. That's why I love both of them. Now if I could just figure a way to settle this Fiddleback addiction.....................

I started with the 4, but not for EDC. If I were looking for EDC, I'd start with the 3. But then again, just buy them both...you can never go wrong with that!!

Izzy is my edc, slides in the pocket and dont know its there untill something needs cutting.
The 4 is a great allround bushcraft knife. Its my favorite bushknife, in OD/orange. The 4 with molleback is a great package.
For urban edc the 3 can be good guess, though i dont have one.

The first I got was the 4. And if I had to do it over, I would get the 4 again. Great blade.

I'd go with the HEST, the blade is slightly shorter than the 3 but thicker. I EDC my HEST quite often and haven't found a single thing that it can't do.

Here's my choice for edc...

RC-3MIL with some G10 scales I swapped from one of my other RC-3's

Moose, I thought the very same thing about the ESEE-5 because I already owned a BK2 and held off on getting a 5, but it's easily my favorite knife now. Honestly, the only true similarity they share is the fact they're both .25 inches in thickness.

Beyond that, they're very different designs I've found. And comparing the two they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Both are very well made knives. The ESEE-5 is for me easily the better cutter. The BK2 probably has the edge in terms of chopping. I really like the grip of the BK2 and thought the flatter scales of the 5 would feel awkward, but for me, the 5 is more comfortable overall.

Get yourself a ESEE-5 Moose. I think you'd really like it if you got the chance to work with one for a while.

I like my BK2 a lot, but I'm going to make a few minor mods to it. I plan on stripping the coating on this one. I'm not concerned about rust, it would just help make it a better cutter. Also plan on giving it a convex edge as well.

The Beckers are one of the best values out there for sure. I won't part with my BK2 or BK7. I probably like the ESEE's just a tad more overall though for a variety of reasons.

Big thanks to all of you guys!

I'm leaning towards the 3 (OD Orange G-10) for now. The clip point double edge looks fun!

I was also looking at the comprehensive survival kit, comes with a ESEE 6 (don't have a BK7) and I can throw it in the truck. Looks like a sweet deal.

I'm sure those two plus the folder will increase the urge for more.

Again, thanks.

I've handled and used both, I prefer the BK2. Its matter of grip and I like the BK2 handle better. I've use my BK2 from the woods to the kitchen, and I honestly can't imagine a better knife. The 5 is good knife, but for me, the Campanion is better. The flat sided 5 doesn't fit my hand as well. Good call though. Moose

Ordered the 3 (OD/Orange), was stoked to fine a black kydex tek-lok and boot clip option......now the worst part.....waiting. :(

You need a ESEE-4. I can't see there being much this thing can't do (within the realm of reason.)

God bless,
Adam

I absolutly love the Izula II for EDC.
Might be smaller than your looking to carry, for my needs, it is perfection.
Also, the price is mighty fine 8)

If I were you though, I would totally get the HEST to go with the HEST/F you got coming ;)
