i am curious as to why? thats all. yes i just noticed that it was closed. by the looks of it i am behind umm about a few months:D

Quick and short answer from what I understand is the ESEE guys wanted more/total control over the content in their forum and when they didn't get it asked to have it closed.

Quick and short answer is that you just can't please some people. It sucks, and that's life.

Wow that's too bad. They really had a lot of traffic and talked about so many different things in that forum. Most of the individual forums just talk about the knife/knives only. That one provided a diversity of topics. I must be really behind. I just noticed that the Kershaw forums were back. Guess I should get my head out of the custom area every now and again.

That's a big part of the problem. There are other subforums for discussing subjects other than the manufacturer's products. For that matter, threads on using the Spyderco SharpMaker routinely get moved from the Spyderco subforum to the Maintenence subforum where sharpening is supposed to be discussed. That way, if you are looking for information on how to sharpen your knife, you'll find it in the section where people are talking about sharpening rather than rooting through manufacturer's subforums hoping to get lucky.

I can see that but ESEE (at least to me) involves domestic and survival training as well as gear for law enforcement, military and outdoor bushcraft. It seems to me that in considering that you would see a plethora of other subject matters in that sub forum. Not everything fits in a neat little box. I have a rat pack number and 2 knives. I certainly don't fall into the fanboy category. What I did notice however on their forum is that a lot of the huge fans did not always wander about the other sections of the forums but wanted to talk about all aspects of the craft inside their space.

Each sub forum has its own culture I have found. Over in the Spyderco forum it pretty much stays Spyderco or Spyderco related. Don't know if that is the tone Sal has projected or if is the culture within that forum. I just think that each sub forum should have its own criteria for what it wants to talk about. Obviously ESEE was a different kind of beast. I would relish its uniqueness, not try to manage it. Just my 2 cents though. Certainly not here to beat a dead horse.

well said and completely agree...

ESEE was offered their own cantina style subforum where "anything goes" and they could talk about whatever off topic subjects they felt like. They said that it was too confusing and too many clicks to go back and forth and not all in one spot (or words to those effect). So, they took their ball and went home... where they opened up their own forums with a bunch of different subforums to click back and forth between. Make whatever you will out of that. The net result is that they made their complaints known, we tried to work with them, and they made the decision to leave. End of story. It really doesn't need to be rehashed.
