ESEE Grip question (Custom)

I was able to acquire some exotic wood and thought about making some custom grips for an ESEE. Is there a link or does anyone know the specs on the stock micarta grips on the different models? Grip width ect?

I've never done a custom handle before, is there anything I need to know before jumping into this project?

I do have a buddy that is good with woodworking and is going to give me a hand, but I just wondered if there are anything special about the ESEE knives that I need to know about?

Thanks

pull the scales off your knife and trace them on a piece of paper.
cut out the tracing
glue or trace it onto the wood
cut outside the lines & sand to fit.
test fit on the blade frequently, but unless you're planning on stripping the finish off your knife, do not sand them while attached.

He pretty much nailed it.

You will want to cut a pattern out of the grips that you have, then sand them down to where it is comfortable to your hand.....there's various ways to do the sanding.

You could look at some knifemaking supply companies if you wanted to buy a different color liner, but they are not necessary. You can also buy different screw sets there or possibly at your local big box hardware store......

It shouldn't be too hard of a chore, especially if you have a buddy who's into woodworking. I'm going to start a similar project myself.

You mean like this or removable? Shoot me an email if you need a full walkthrough....

I might take you up on the removable part. I'm not too sure the best way to drill recessed holes to fit the screws and middle connector that I'd use and if I can find them at Lowe's.

DONT do lowes. Honestly if you are going to do removable go with someplace like texas knife suppy. Get the right parts to do it right. It wont cost much more and fit and finish will benefit so much. Ask me how i know this lol

Okay, will do. I've bought from them before. Do you know what size screws and length adapter I'll need?

It totally depends on blade and wood thickness. Decide that first and then figure how much material you will remove for shaping. Once you figure that out with how deep your countsink is call them up and they should be able to set you up just fine. Worst case you mit have to grind a few threads off. Also post questions in the maintanence and tinkering section. Some great help over there from my experience...
