Just got my Izula II today.
So, let's get right to the point.
I am absolutely blown away by this knife.
Everything that everybody says about it is true.
I'll start with the sheath.
It's extremely well made for basic plastic. When the knife is in it, there is absolutely no movement. I think I could throw it off the roof of my house and the knife would stay in it.
Just a push of the thumb against it is enough to extract the Izzy.
It has many carrying/mounting options too. But, since I very much believe in the motto "the simpler the better" I just stuff the whole thing in my back pocket. It also fits nicely in the front pocket. The slot in one side of it I used to wrap paracord around in case I ever need a lanyard to wrap around my wrist, like working over water.
On to the knife itself.
The blade is screamin' sharp. Bevels are perfectly even on both sides. The black coating is beautifully and evenly applied; the graphics are very well done too. Jimping for the thumb on the spine is fine, although I could go for a slightly rougher finish. In all fairness, the black coating really smooths it out. Maybe I'll rough it up a bit with some sandpaper.
The cutout for the forefinger is perfectly proportioned and placed. None of the edges anywhere are sharp.
The handle is beautiful in its simplicity. It's not much to look at, but it fits my smallish hands very nicely. The texture of the micarta has a nice feel without resorting to any patterns or sculpting. Finally, the fit of the handle slabs around the tang is absolutely perfect! I've handled knives that cost 10 times more than the Izzy that didn't have this kind of handle fit.
Lastly, a little card (size of a credit card) was included listing some basic survival hints. Nice touch to an awesome package.
Bottom line, I find it hard to believe that I can get this kind of quality in a knife and sheath for only $60. :D
If this was the only knife I had on me when the baloon goes up, I think I'd be OK. Besides batoning through larger sticks or logs, I'd bet there's very little this knife could do that the bigger ones can.
That being said, I definitely see an ESEE 4 in my future. :D
Now, everybody go out and buy an Izula!

Thanks for the post. I have yet to try the I-2 , but I have owned a few regular Izulas. I have given a few to friends and keep one in a pouch on my pack, and sometimes when I'm out I'll carry it in my front pocket. I have used it for everything from fire craft to food prep and it has done really well. I agree, while I hope I have something a little larger handy in a bad situation, the Izula would be a very capable little tool in a bad situation, Rowen does a good heat treat. I can imaging the I-2 is pretty much the same with a more comfortable handle.
