I'm looking to replace my Bugout with a compact fixed blade for edc and basically the same tasks you'd use a pocket knife for, but also the occasional caping/more detailed work when hunting (I was also thinking of the White River Caper or one of its variants, as it's in the same size range but $50 more expensive). Same steel in both, cpm-s35vn, $10 difference, ATK has a slightly longer blade.

Which one would you get and why?

I’ve had both! I’d get the M1 with bolt on scales (backpacker pro) and be done! The BP Pro can still be found in S35VN for $130ish -$150. Also the WR sheaths are well made. The M1 has great ergos and is more refined than the ESEE! It goes without saying you can’t make a bad choice with both options! 😎

Exactly what was said here. Also have both and you’re not gonna go wrong but the S35VN is the deal breaker for me

Izula. Esee has great heat treatment
The atk is more pocketable but the extremely smoothe handles pose a slipping hazard in wet conditions. Im aware you can make your own handles but if we are talking about the knives as they are delivered I would choose the izula every time

The better refined handle is worth the extra 20ish bucks. It's probably a better deal in the long run, also like you can take the scales off on the version you mentioned, I'd only seen versions with fixed scales, but the BP pro looks sexy.

s35vn is great stuff, especially for a smaller blade. Similar edge retention to s30v, slightly tougher, easier to sharpen and is stainless.
