I'm interested in getting an esee izula, and I was wondering if anyone has issues with rust. I know the powder coat will help, but on the edge and on the laser etching. I have issues with rust on other knives, even after I oil them. So any feedback will be cool, and any oil recommendations also. I normally use benchmade Blue Lube and wd40.

Hi Blah -

It's only a problem if you don't use your knives regularly.

If you'll be putting your knives away for extended periods (weeks and months at a time) use vaseline on the edge and etching (if that's a concern for you) -

Otherwise, just use the crap out of them and it won't be an issue.

I use a tuf-cloth and have never had an issue with rust on any of my knives.

Arizona is a little dry though.

I have problems with this, it varies in humidity here but it's usually over 70%. I used some vinegar and paper towels and forced a patina on the exposed metal parts, keeps the rust off pretty well. The bevel I just keep dry, it doesn't rust too much but when it does it rubs off easy with use.

As long as you don't put it away wet, you shouldn't have a problem with rust. If you want to be extra careful, a bit of oil over the etchings is more than adequate.

I have 3 of them and carry one in my pocket all the time. Just pull it out of the sheath and strop it on your pants leg a 1/2 dozen per side every so often. Mine are not oiled and pristine!

Like posted don't do anything beef headed like put it in the sheath soaking wet and forget about and you'll be fine. Don't sweat this little knife it's no a rust magnet at all.

Just keep and eye on it. Sometimes I will put a little oil on mine. If you use it daily or every couple of days it will be fine. Check it often, oil if needed. Its humid where I live and I have no problems.

I use a fine coat of Militec-1 on all of my blades when I get them. Wipe it on evenly and hit them with hot blow dryer several times per day. Repeat day 2, repeat day 3. Then let them sit until cool and wipe down the 3rd evening with soft cloth. The Coast Guard uses it, it must work and it has for me. I have 0 rust on any knives.

We were arguing about XM-18's rusting with CTS-XHP. A member said water droplets rusted his blade over night. I did the test and sprinkled water on my CTS-XHP XM-18 which I treated as above. Pictures of be fore and after showed 0 rust. Just a few white dust spots from evaporation which wiped of to a mirror polish!

Militec-1 treated CTS-XHP Before:

I use mine daily, in a grocery store. Im in and out of the meat room, helping in our deli, doing maintenance on something broke, you name it. My knife gets wet daily. I never have an issue with rust. What I do, is just sharpen, then coat the blade with CLP. I also live in Kentucky, and todays humidity level was 79. I wouldnt sweat rust too bad man.
