Has anyone ever owned or used both these large knives. Is the gso 10 worth 200 more for the steel. I feel at this size of knife having a monster steel it may be worth it. both companies have almost same warranty. Knives are almost the same dimensions. Any advise or comments is appreciated. Obviously "if you can buy the better one buy it" no 200 more is a lot more regardless lol

I have both, and really like both, both have good chopping power, yet are nimble in hand being 3/16th rather than 1/4". The GSO-10 holds an edge noticeably longer of course due to the steel, especially in harder wood, I actually have gotten a bit of edge deformation in the Junglas from some hard knots, though due to the softer, lower carbide steel they were very easy to sharpen out too. The finger choil on the 10, does keep one's hand more secure in one or two grips, but also limits grip placement as well. I was lucky enough to get the 10 on the first run at a very deep discount, about the same price as the Junglas actually, the 10 is the chopper I usually take with me into the woods, but I don't plan on getting rid of the Junglas. At the current price of $350 I'd probably just get a custom made to my specs and hand size.

Both with a Scrap yard SYKCO 911

At the $350 that they are asking you could pick up a Busse, Swamprat, or Scrapyard knife new or used depending on which you choose. Same warranty, unconditional life time. I use a Busse Basic 11, you can find them for that price, lightly used, and with a sheath for $350. You can buy new from Swamprat in the colors you choose without a sheath for less and have a sheath made while you wait a couple weeks for your knife to be made. Just my opinion.

For the money, you can get a Junglas on the secondary market that's new or slightly used for about $150. I like 1/4" for a chopper though, it just bites deeper in my opinion and the weight difference isn't noticeable really.

I have owned both. Actually, I have owned about a half dozen of the Junglas.

I sold off the GSO 10 immediately! The finger grooves were super uncomfortable for me. I never even took it out and tried any chopping with it.

I like the Junglas very much. The handle is very comfortable and it does a great job at chopping and battoning. I no longer have one though. My main complaint is that it just never felt like it had the heft or thickness to be great. It feels a bit lacking to me. I believe for the price, it is a winner. It just did not fill the roll of a heavy, large woods knife for me.

My big knife of choice is the Gossman Bolo. It is thick, brawny, and a wood eating BEAST. Scott Gossman makes a great working blade and may be worth investigating!

Good luck on your search!

If you are considering spending $350+....I would seriously consider getting a custom.

Sorry for posting so late.... thank you for your advice. What is a good steel to use in a custom knife. I dont want 1095. I want something that wont deform easy and wont rust like its getting paid to. Advise on steel and the pros and cons if you know them would be greatly appreciated.
