ESEE Junglas or TOPS SXB?

I would ask this question elsewhere but both companies don't have an active forum. I've been looking at picking up the Junglas for awhile now and was just about to pull the trigger when I found a little blurb about the SXB. Both blades are meant for the same chopper general camp knife duties from what I've read. Most of my property is medium to hardwood trees with smaller vegetation like vines mixed in. I used my RTAK II last weekend clearing brush and was impressed, I've read quite a bit about the Junglas being an upgraded RTAK II though. The handle is more comfortable and the fit and finish is much better from what I've come across, and most seem to like the grind on the Junglas more. Plus it's always nice to have a backup.

Now for the SXB, it looks to be a very sturdy jack of all trades master of none type blade. The blade on the SXB is thicker but with the cut out close to the grip comes in only 4 oz heavier than the Junglas. It's also in the same 10" length range that I'm looking for. It looks to be a better chopper with the somewhat hatchet shaped blade. My friend at work has a Tom Brown Tracker from TOPS and thinks the world of it, the SXB seems to be in general a larger reworked version. The Tracker is a little small for my uses (the nasty pricker tree forest on my property will make you pay dearly if you don't have enough blade length) and something in the 10"+ range is needed. The blade really appeals to me because my trail is a mix of trees and mid sized vegetation with small bushes and vines mixed in.

The price is about $80 apart right now, which is kind of significant but not a deal breaker. The Junglas seems to be a favorite suggestion here so I have to take that into account. I like my RTAK II but I get the feeling that the Junglas is a better overall blade by a significant amount. TOPS isn't mentioned much but they seem to have a pretty decent following and my one experience with them is a friends Tracker. It's a very nice blade with fit and finish that was pretty good, but as I said it's just too small for my needs. I know since the SXB isn't out yet that no one can report on it. I'm asking more about TOPS as a company and the quality of their other blades that people here have had experience with.

Here is a link to the TOPS SXB:https://www.topsknives.com/sxb

So which would you recommend? If you have experience with either company then please chime in! I was really all set to get the Junglas but then I came across the SXB and my mind just started wondering. How dare companies make stuff that peaks my interest! As always thanks for all the help!

Let me be the first to say....Good luck sharpening that Tops....

I have never owned an ESEE, but I have owned two Tops knives the Firestrike 45 and BOB Bushcrafter...The Firestrike was truly nothing but a somewhat sharpened prybar, the Bushcrafter was a superb knife and very useful...Fit and Finish are excellent on Tops...

If your just looking for a brush clearing device, get a machete, Kabar makes some decent ones for MUCH less $$$...if it needs to be used as a possible heavy duty survival tool that you plan on building a cabin with, get a double bit axe....if you need it to fill both roles but not really excel at either then out of the two I'd vote for the ESEE....

Other good ones to examine before purchase would be Benchmades new 10" Jungle Clip point Bowie and 10" Bolo, both can be had for a lil more than a Benjamin Franklin, also Scrap Yard has the 911, 1111, & 1311 you could find on the secondary market for around the same price as the Tops...The Scrap Yard 1111 is my Go-To chopper and it far excels against other knives I have used for the same purpose...

Best of luck to you on your quest.

That TOP's is a movie knife. If you want a real knife to compare to the ESEE get the Armageddon, power eagle or short machete. All those would be comparable. I really like the TOP's short machete. But as a one knife thing, I would still pick the Junglas

I think the guy might have made a desision 5 months ago when he asked this question.

And for the record, don't listen to the people who have no history here. Post count and time here means you have at least have a verifiable record of your time and contribution here. With those things you can easily determine if the advice given is complete bull snot or worth the time to read it.
