ESEE Junglas

I like the TOPS Armageddon. @ more ounces than the Junglas but 1/4 inch 1095 and very well balanced.

I don't think there really is a "best chopper available" to be honest with you. What might work for you, might not work for others. I think the BK-9 is a bit lighter, so I'd go with that one.

In this price range give me a Junglas any day.
I like the micarta handles. You can get them for a Becker but they're extra!

I had a BK9 and an RTAK II, I think the Junglas is the best of both worlds. The higher grind on the Junglas is better for fine work and it comes with micarta scales standard.

Busse Battle Mistress if you can afford it. Junglas if you can't. And BK9 if you can't afford the Junglas. That's my preference. However, I don't even own a BM anymore. I do have a Basic 9, and that's what I use.

A friend of mine wanted the Junglas. He couldn't afford it, so he got the BK9. Then he got micarta scales for it. Then he got kydex for it....and all kinds of fire starters and crap. By this point he could have bought the Junglas, and an Izula as a playmate... He tells me all the time that he wishes he had, but he didn't.

I have the RTAK II for playing in the woods, if I was in a serious situation or was going on a real trip where I needed a chopper I'd get a Junglas...

My Junglas outchops my BK9. I've read a technical discussion of why that is the case (probably the grind and the weighted sweet spot), but I can't recall it. It is an extremely high quality fixed blade for a production knife.

P.S. I still love the 9.

I've owned all of them, the GSO 10, the Junglas, and the BK9. I still own the Junglas and it is my go to chopper. The BK9 works well but the grivory grips, well, they lacked grip. It does chop and baton very well.
The GSO 10 is a beast of a knife and made appropriately in 3V, with incredible ergos and great balance for a chopper. Hands down, a beautiful work of art useful tool with superb fit and finish, along with tremendous attention to detail.
Having said that, for real world use for most of us, I didn't see any advantage of beating on a $300.00+ GSO 10 vs beating on a $100.00+ Junglas. Both steels require maintenance and oiling so no advantage there. If I were using it daily to make a living, or spent weeks at a time in the field, then yes, the GSO 10 would be the one.
For the average outdoorsman like me who spends weekends outdoors and occasionally 3-5 days and maybe even a week in the woods now and again, the Junglas is the best bang for the buck.
I know Kabar (and Ethan) will stand behind the BK9 if something is not right. No worries there. I know Guy at Survive will stand behind his knives 100% as well. No worries there either.
The Esee Junglas, on the other hand has an unconditional (yes, unconditional) forever (yes forever) warranty. Can there be a better or longer warranty than that? My $.02

Yup, it is a beast of a chopper, with fantastic balance and a very deep cut.

Also, I don't abuse my knives at all, but part of me looks forward to the day that my Junglas needs replacing, if it ever comes. Christmas all over again.

Get to the choppa! I've wanted a Junglas for a while. Have a ESEE5 currently. We'll see what the future holds.
