Esee knife and scout carry

Hey guys so a follow up on my recent question basically asking what esee knife to get, and a overall question about scout carry. Is scout carry really useful and beneficial? Also if I were to get an esee and (maybe) a custom scout carry sheath what knife would be a good size? Mainly looking at the 4 and 6 but I'm open to all opinions and recommendations!
Ps if I get a custom sheath it would probably be a Godspeed tactical sheath. Thanks

I haven't tried a fixed blade in a scout carry sheath, but my experience with a horizontal back sheath for my Case Folding Hunter, was that it was fine while hiking around, but its uncomfortable as hell when you sit. I have enough back problems, so that carry is not for me. If used specifically while hiking and if the sheath could be unclipped for quick removal, I would consider it, otherwise I'd stick with a vertical sheath.
Other's carry horizontal sheaths and love them, I like them in principle, just not in execution.

I have a kydex dangler made by Godspeed Tactical for my ESEE-6. To me, a dangler sheath is the way to go because it moves out of your way when you sit, it is right at arm's length rather than having to reach up or behind you for your knife, and it can be lashed to the thigh to keep it from moving around.

Here's a pic. The Izula sheath is also by Godspeed.

As with doing any buisness with a custom maker, you need to do some basic research on said maker. Right now godspeed tactical is a shell of what it once was. Please see these threads in GBU:

There are too many good custom kydex benders on here to support someone who runs a business like Eli.

Scout carry can be more than uncomfortable, it could be dangerous. Sure, it looks cool and, while just standing around, it is fun to draw from but "out and about" climbing, hiking, etc. slipping onto ones back is a distinct possibility. I know of two police officers, using SOB holsters, who fell backwards (granted, one was in a fight with a perp) and severely injured their spines (one ended his career right there). I know a handgun is a different geometry from a knife, but I personally would be wary. Not saying I'm right, just my .02

Hedgehog and Skystorm make good scout leather sheaths.

I really don't like scout carry in the small of my back since it can really mess you up if you fall on your back. But I don't mind a horizontal cross draw with my Winkler knife. It is a pretty natural motion. When its behind my back, I find myself having a hard time finding the sheath, and I'd rather not be fiddling around or stabbing myself because I couldn't visually see the knife.

Nice thing is that It gets things out of they way and gives you easy access to your pockets. But I've never had a problem with the traditional vertical carry

A metal bar across ones spine? No, thank you.

When in the Scout carry phase, Id wear the knife at the side or slightly more to the fromt.

These days, I prefer a bandolier carry or a dangler sheath carry.

The esee 4 is a great knife and the stock sheath works for me though I would like a 45 degree cross draw... not a fan of scout carry as its hard to access the knife and easy to injure yourself trying to put it back in the sheath.

It looks like others have had trouble, or had time constraints and needed their order faster, but I never had a problem with GodSpeed Tactical over 5 or 6 orders. I only stopped ordering from him because I learned how to make my own kydex, with Eli's help answering my new guy questions over the phone.

Very nice setup Remy!

Knife in small of back, horizontal, not straight up and down. I've tried it, and no sir, I don't like it.

Thanks bud! I've gotten a lot of use out of the Izula before and after the new sheath. The 6 hasn't seen much action between a bit of the BK16, and my Junglas of all things. Man, that Junglas can cut and chop like nobody's business!

Thank you all for your opinions I'm leaning towards an esee 4 on my belt or cross draw on my left side

Thanks for the pictures and opinions. so how do you carry your junglas, is it on your belt or your pack or something (I plan on buying one in a few months)? Also is your esee 6 just at 3 o'clock on the kydex dangler?

I carry the Junglas on my belt as normal because the design of the sheath lets the knife ride low and right where my hand hangs down.

The ESEE-6 sheath hangs at 6 o'clock. A dangler is a normal vertical sheath that has an O-ring or D-ring attached to a belt loop. This lets it hang low, and also lets it swing, so it can be pushed out of the way when sitting or crouching. I can't stand wearing knives with the handle sticking up past my waistline.

As someone else said, you could also do "scout carry" but on the right or left hip, front or back, like the placement of pockets on a pair of jeans. It's just a bad idea to do it directly under the spine.

Thanks for the reply, I will chose to not carry in that manor as it will be in the way of my backpack waist belt.

No problem.

In addition, scout carry is quite irritating to me, and if you fall on your back it would hurt like a sumbitch!

Others have had more than trouble and it is not just due to time constraints. As of today Eli and his Godspeed Tactical account have been permanently banned from BladeForums. Info is here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...speed-Tactical-banned?p=13798439#post13798439
